Don't forget -
Orchid users should remember to reset the dialler’s internal clock to GMT early tomorrow morning (or at some other more convenient time).
Resetting the clock from the attached phone can be done by a sequence of keystrokes, as follows:
* * # 0 0 0 0 *
hhmm
DOW
ddmmyy
* 2
(this sequence is shown on five lines to improve legibility – when setting the time the entire sequence is entered without breaks), where
hhmm is four digits representing the current time in 24-hour format
DOW (day of week) is one digit representing the current day (Monday = 1, Sunday = 7)
ddmmyy is six digits representing the current date
For example, to set the clock at 3pm tomorrow, key in
* * # 0 0 0 0 *
1500
7
261014
* 2
and hang up.Jumbo

Thanks Charlie!0 -
Just wondered if anyone had yet come across a modern replacement for the Orchid V4 (if so I'd love to know about it), or will it go down in history as one of those amazing products that was never improved upon or superceded?0

Not having anywhere near the functionality of the V4, there's the CPS dialler.

Not cheap either.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks Heinz, that's interesting. Do you know how it's programmed? And have you tried one out?
PS Presumably just a coincidence that some of their other products are named Orchid!0 -
I believe there's some crude programmability via DTMF tones but I've not tried one though.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I was just going through to update the time on the dialler - it's not so crucial for me as I'm on the cheapest BT option which only has free weekend calls, so it will mainly affect me around midnight!
I've just noticed that the version of the file I maintain is 1.7, whereas the latest version is 1.9. Is there a list of changes to see what I need to update, or can I just copy and paste the values between them. There is the issue of 64-bit compatibility for the macros, which I can't remember how I solved it last time... Doh!Jumbo

Does anyone still have an Orchid dialer ( which were all the rage on here a few (many) years ago. I still use mine and am strongly considering leaving Virgin Media whom I've been with for 18 years.
Can anyone remember how to reprogram one - mine hasn't been touched for probably 5 to 6 years
There used to be a most helpful gentleman on here who provided guidance ( or possibly did it)
Thanks - particularly if you are that guy!0 -
I still have one which I only used for a short period. It was far too complicated to set up.
I think Heinz is the guy you are referring to."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
I still use one - it saves me a fortune :-)
I even have a spare in case this one fails!
You need to find the old spreadsheet you used to program the thing years ago - then looking at that will remind you about it.
Of course it would be best if you still have an old modem, else
you will need to use the tedious manual programming method.
