Primus define ‘evening’ as 18:00:00 to 07:59:59, and ‘weekend’ as 18:00:00 on Friday to 07:59:59 on Monday. (See the section ‘Billing and Payment’ under the ‘Help’ tab on Primus website.

You will need to refer to the charging information for the specific package you are joining in order to determine if you will get any inclusive calls. This will determine the changes to be made to your Orchid programming.

You should also check whether dialing the 18185 prefix actually routes calls through the expected service, by making a test call and listening for the tariff message (log in to your 18185 account and make sure that ‘tariff message’ is switched on).

Find out all the details of inclusive calls on your Primus package and it should be possible to avoid paying too much for the other calls that are not included.

    Thanks for this.

My primus package is the one at the link below, There are ZERO included calls.

You don't get any inclusive calls with this Primus deal, so it's best for low call users. Weekend calls cost 1p/min, evening calls cost 2p/min and daytime calls cost 7.4p/min. Every call will also incur a one-off 12.9p connection fee.

I'm guessing I should send all chargeable call via 18185?

If you take their phone line only.
May not apply if you also take their broadband and are LLU.

You're welcome - glad to hear everything is OK.
  • I am currently a BT customer and thinking of moving my calls and landline to o2. Will the orchid dialler still work for calls that I wish to route through to call18185, etc?

Only BT has to allow access to providers like 18185. I doubt O2 does.

I stand corrected! See post #724 below.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

It's quite possible that O2 won't route your calls through 18185 if you prefix the called number by 18185. However, you would still be able to call through 18185 by using their access numbers 0808 170 3703 or 020 8180 2828. The call charges are not (in general) quite as low as when accessed through the 18185 prefix, but I imagine they are still a good bit cheaper than O2 would be charging.

Assistance on reprogramming your dialler freely available.
