Very odd! I'm away from home at the moment, so I can't check exactly what mine does. I think that it seems to take a couple of seconds to reset itself after a call. How long are you having to allow between calls for it to display correctly on follow-on calls?
My Orchid dialler DOES have a mains power supply, but I wouldn't expect that to make any difference - the display unit has its own batteries. I presume that your batteries are ok and are correctly fitted? [I ask because fitting batteries is a bit odd - there seems to be enough space for three batteries, but it only takes two].
I've actually got TWO[1] of these display units, one either side of the Orchid - so I can see what I am dialling AND what is going out to the line - and they both display ok. They are each tee'd into their respective lines with a single connection each, rather then being connected in line. I don't know whether that makes any difference.
Most times now, it doesn't record the dialled number at all, or only a couple of digits regardless how long its been "idle" so it's not a timing issue like I first thought. Also checked the batteries and even fitted another fresh pair (1.59v) but no joy.Retired so trying to save even more!0 -
When I got the box, I found that it didn't respond to any of the buttons until it was connected to something (thinks its off hook) so guessed that it would only work inline. I just tried your Tee arrangement with the "To Line" socket of the display box connected into one side of a double adapter and my Orchid in the other side but it didn't make any difference. I agree that the battery setup for the display box is a little odd - room for three but only takes two! When I first opened it up to fit the (new fresh) batteries I thought it had a broken battery contact!!

In that case, I think it's duff! I suggest that you contact the seller and ask for a replacement or a refund. Have you left any Ebay feedback yet? If not, you may find a threat to leave negative (or even neutral) feedback is a good negotiating tool if you don't immediately get satisfaction. It worked for me!Cheers,

I'm about to put my Orchid DSD4 on eBay.
Is there a factory reset that I should complete before hopefully selling this on ?0 -

(1). Clear the entire Carrier Codes table by entering the following sequence on your telephone keypad:** # 0000 * 2222 * 6
(2). Clear the entire Routing Codes table by entering the following sequence on your telephone keypad:** # 0000 * 1111 * 6Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
However.... just how do I do this as I've removed it from the line it was connected to.
Which do I plug into the phone line and which do I plug the phone into ?
... and how do i know it has worked ?
... can I do this on a cable phone line ?
Holding the unit up, there is one connection bottom left side and two top right side. With an red LED in the top left corner.0 -

Does it look like this: http://www.mills37.plus.com/Orchid.JPG ?
If so, the bottom left connection is for connecting to the line, and you plug a phone into either of the top right ports (you can have 2 phones plugged in for normal operation, as in my photo)
I think it needs to be connected to a line in order to get dial tone, but it won't be sending anything down the line when you (de-)program it - so a cable phone line may well do.
There's no easy way of confirming that it's worked unless you've got something like one of the devices discussed earlier in the thread, which you can plug in to see what is actually being sent to the line when you make a call.Cheers,

.... apart from the fact that it has no "power in".
I'll give it a go.0 -
Right, so I've just ditched BT and moved my line rental to Primus for £6.99 a month - or I will when the switch is made.
I want to update my (really Heinz's) spreadsheet for max money saving.
I'm guess I want all my calls to go through number 1 (18185) now as I've zero calls included, except for free calls - is that right?
Also, how do I find out what Primus time boundaries are? Maybe I don't need that if all chargeable calls are routed via number 1?
Something like below?Jim.0 -
Jim:
Primus define ‘evening’ as 18:00:00 to 07:59:59, and ‘weekend’ as 18:00:00 on Friday to 07:59:59 on Monday. (See the section ‘Billing and Payment’ under the ‘Help’ tab on Primus website.
You will need to refer to the charging information for the specific package you are joining in order to determine if you will get any inclusive calls. This will determine the changes to be made to your Orchid programming.
You should also check whether dialing the 18185 prefix actually routes calls through the expected service, by making a test call and listening for the tariff message (log in to your 18185 account and make sure that ‘tariff message’ is switched on).
Find out all the details of inclusive calls on your Primus package and it should be possible to avoid paying too much for the other calls that are not included.0
