    Having gone from BT to Plusnet anytime calls package I need to make some very basic changes to my V4 Dialler. Unfortunately I can only find some rudimentary instructions. Is there anywhere on the web the full instructions for the V4?

    All I want to do is take out the predialling for local area calls and national calls (so that it will go directly through Plusnet) but leave it in for mobiles and international calls. I use only one provider (18185) and don't do anything fancy with times or weekends.

    Thanks

    The problem is that that to change the codes it depends on which carrier and routing codes were set up on your original box, and there is no way to tell that.

    So I think the only way is to reset your box and start again. Have a look at the spreadsheet linked to on page 1 to calculate what codes you need and either send them via a modem or punch them in manually via your phone.

    The codes I think you need are

    Clear the Carrier Code Table (**#0000*2222*6)
    Clear the Routing Code Table (**#0000*1111*6)
    Program entries into the Carrier Code Table (*#**18185*1)
    Program entries into the Routing Code Table (*###*07#3111#01#) for mobile
    Program entries into the Routing Code Table (*###*00#3111#02#) for int

    I have been using the spreadsheet program and a cheap Zoom diallup modem for ages. Since they turned off the server, it is the only simple way to avoid making mistakes with manual keying. The Zoom does not have a local speaker to monitor the line so I had to do something about that. Get a modem that has a built in line monitor or plug a second phone in to hear beeps are going out. Many older laptops came with diallup modem cards built in. Look for a BT type phone jack on the connector panel. You will then have to get the modem software going and tell the Spreadsheet program which port it is on. Sounds complicated, but once set up you can make changes to the routing tables and upload to the V4 very easily, but a bit slower than the website method. The most basic change you always need to make to the V4 dialler is to reset the internal clock everytime BST/GMT changes - otherwise your routing clock will get out of sync (free calls after 19.00) and you will be paying!

    Take a look at the manual that I wrote - there's a link in post #630 of this thread.

    Thanks Shilcor, I should have done a bit of searching before I posted my question. As soon as I did I found a link to your manual.
    Very impressive manual, it answers all my questions and thanks very much for producing it, it certainly helps people like me.
  • Hi,
    I have an old Orchid box that was supplied as a Heinz programmed unit. its been doing great work for us.
    But Junior has taken to making calls to his mates mobiles and the bills are racking up. is there an easy was to bar dialling the numbers he persistently offends with?

    The spreadsheet looks great but I'm hoping to avoid too much hassle with this just to bar a couple of numbers. Can this be done just from the handset?

    Thanks in advance

    Yes Fred, you can do that manually.

    I'd suggest new Routing Rules well outside what your program is currently using - say, 40 onwards.

    Hence, assuming the number you want to bar is 07758112233, you'd make a new Rule 40 by keying the following into your phone:

    * # # # 0 7 7 5 8 1 1 2 2 3 3 # 1 0 0 0 # 4 0 #

    If you wanted to bar another number (say, 07758778899) you'd make a new Rule 41 by keying:

    * # # # 0 7 7 5 8 7 7 8 8 9 9 # 1 0 0 0 # 4 1 #
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • check out dialnow.com very cheap for calling mobiles 0.1p per minute :j You should be able to program it into the call box too.

    I would be amazed if they can sustain this mobile calling rate, I think they must be making a loss on each call as the termination rate charged by the receiving network looks like it is 1.7p

  • I signed up to a couple of these credit type of services a few years back and found after a few months of paying the 'deposit' up front the call rates got jacked up. Also get others to check on your call quality as they can use minimal bandwidths to get the low prices. Remember, you may have to pay the local rate landline charges on top of their published rates for going via their access number. This is another Luxembourg based company. Is anybody using this service provider and can give feedback?
