Finally managed to get KL's excellent spreadsheet working.

Many thanks to KL and Heinz for their continuing support.0 -
Strangely enough, I used it for the first time yesterday too - clearing and then programming one of my spare V4s for a relative.
My HP laptop has an HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP on COM3 and that rattled through the new program of 3 Carrier Codes and then 25 Routing Rules very quickly and effectively (I put a dummy Routing Rule - to Translate the dialling of 555 to my own mobile number [programmed as Carrier 3] - as a 'program proving' entry).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
It appears that the 0800 100 100 free Directory Enquiry service briefly available during 2009 will not now be returning (a recorded message now greets callers with a message which starts, "Thank you for calling the Network Rail routing administration line" so it is clear the number is no longer owned by the directory enquiry company). Routing Rule 27 currently uses Digit Translation to cause Orchid diallers like the V4 to connect to that number when the digits 192 are dialled.
Martin used to recommend 0800 100 100 but now directs those searching for a freephone Directory Enquiry number to 0800 118 3733 (0800 118 FREE) and, therefore, those using Kevin Lawry's spreadsheet need to alter Carrier Code 4 by changing cell B4 from 1280#0800100100 to 1280#08001183733 so that the Digit Translation of 192 being dialled will connect to 0800 118 3733 via CPS override (BT). Thereafter, no change to Routing Rule 27 will be necessary.
For those wishing to manually program their Orchid dialler(s) using the keys on their telephone, the keying string is:*#**1280#08001183733*4Thereafter, no change to Routing Rule 27 will be necessary.

Is the 1280# part of this programming string necessary? Primus don’t charge their CPS customers for calls to numbers in the 0800 range. Are there any CPS suppliers who do, because otherwise I can’t see any benefit in routing these calls through BT.

* Routing Rule 12 in association with Carrier Code 3 (see post #1 in this thread) does this.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I have used my V4 dialler with BT for many years routing calls to 18185 without any problems. I have now transferred my line to Virgin to avoid the line rental and having issues. Using the spreadsheet dialer I was able to update everything to use the Virgin access code (opt 5) but although the code is recognised the call does not go through and I get a 18185 message asking to re-key the number. Trying the process manually i.e without the dialer it seems there is a 15 -18 sec delay in getting the voice prompt to enter the number after dialling the access code. Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestion on using an alternative override ?
Thanks0 -
Yes, unfortunately that sort of excessive delay happens from time to time but, as the maximum pause which can be inserted in the Carrier Code table is 5 seconds (5 x #) there's nothing that can be done I'm afraid.
Why on earth did you change to the country's most expensive voice telephony provider?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. The reason I moved to VM was mainly to stop paying BT line rental, I already use cable Internet so the phone line is more or less free. I am a very low usage customer so even if I do pay Virgin's high prices, I am not really any worse off. I did however wrongly assume that overrides work as well with cable as they do with BT, which they rather annoyingly don't because of the access code delays. The orchid does seem to work with 1899.com but not 18185. Just a shame its not as slick as it is with a BT line. I would be interested to hear from any one else that is in the same position.0

I have been using the Heinz program for a while
The spreadsheet now used to update the v4+is causing me problems. I have tried it on two different laptops, where i can only hear the modem dial, but the box does not turn on. Which i presume is needed for the settings to be updated.
The second laptop that i used was a dell vostro 1000, which appears to have worked for other users with the Conexant HDA D330 MDC v.92 modem.
I don't think the computer is detecting a dial tone
Also am I right in saying that the modem should be connected directly into one of the two of orchid phone inputs, where the phone is usually connected.
