  • It maintains settings, but not the time - you will need to reset the clock

Does the dialler keep it's settings if I remove from the phone line? It doesn't have an external power supply. If it doesn't, how long do you think it would last?

Just trying to make sure my technique to update the dialler with the new settings, ready for the BT changes to it's Unlimited Evenings and Weekend plan in April, is spot on.

Kevin, thanks again for the spreadsheet!

    Hi Kevin:

I wonder if you’ve got any ideas about a problem I’m having programming a v4.

My PC is running XP Pro, the modem is a US Robotics connected to COM1. The modem works perfectly well in its normal job of sending and receiving faxes. It will dial the ‘test number’ OK. I’m using v1.8.5 and in general, almost everything behaves as expected, except when trying to send the routing table. I have about 34 entries in this table. I hear the first few entries being sent, but the modem sending DTMF bursts to the dialler does not keep pace with the strings coming up in the status monitor window in the application. Probably before 10 entries have been sent maybe 4 or 5 have been skipped.

I can program the v4 just by sending each table entry one at a time (‘dial single table entry’), so I can confirm that the modem and the dialler are working correctly. However, I’m rather at a loss to understand why the table entries can’t be fed to the modem as intended, and I’d appreciate any advice you can give.

  • It is because the only way I am able to access the modem does not support any feedback from the modem so I have to guess when it has finished dialling before moving on to the next.

There is a post dial pause that you can adjust on the settings page which will allow the modem a little more time to catch up, increase it in ones, you should get to where you need to be

Thanks for this, I've been trying to program the dialler by following the instructions in the manual and was left completely baffled. I still did it manually as I don't have a model but your spreadsheet made it easier on working out what codes to dial.

Having to enter codes manually as don't have Excel (only Open Office). Do I need to hang up between each line of code or can they be entered one after the other and hang up at end?

    Hi Kevin,

I am having strange problems which I don't understand.

Some numbers are are being dialed, but other numbers are not being dialed.

When I run through the advanced program, it gets to item 25 (*###141#6000#25#) and that is dialed ok. It then goes to do number 26 (*###1470#6000#26#) and it doesn't dial the number.

I have tried manually trying to dial these and 25 always works, but 26 doesn't work.

I have also experimented with the "Dial Test Number". If I have Cell F6 set to "1471" it doesn't dial, but if I change it to "**#0000*2222*6" (clear routing table) then it dials fine.

I have experimented with Soft reset, advanced reset, post dial pause, but nothing seems to make it work.

I have been stepping through the code but I don't understand why some numbers are working and other numbers are not working.

    Have you seen this before?

    Thank you.

    Hi Kevin,

Ok. this is more confusing. It's nothing to do with the spreadsheet, its the modem in my laptop. (HP Elitebook 6930p)

I have tried dialing from a terminal window directly to the modem.

    this works OK: ATX1S6=0DT*###118*1*9#5222#22#

    this doesn't work: ATX1S6=0DT*###118*1*9#5222#23#

As much as it seems strange changing from 22 to 23 at the end of the string stops it working!

I am wondering if there is a addition to the ATD command that could be added to not do any checking on the number or something like that?

I'm not able to use the automatic function of this as I don't have a modem, but have manually enteres the codes, all seem OK except there is a Virgin message on the 192/118 calls and they are not allowed.
I have set the dialler up to bar all mobile call, (teenagers in the house) but I would like to enable it to call my number only. Putting that into the routing tabel does not seem to work, I think because there are too many digits. Does anyone know how to program it to call only one set mobile and bar all others?
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

I expect your barring Routing Rule (I have assumed Routing Rule 27) looks something like this:

    * # # # 0 7 # 1 0 0 0 # 27 #

Assuming your mobile number is 07989123456, you want calls to that number to be sent via Carrier Code 2 and you wish to program it as Routing Rule 28, the programming string would be:

    * # # # 0 7 9 8 9 1 2 3 4 5 6 # 3 2 2 2 # 28 #

Because that rule has a longer dial string (the whole mobile number) than the 2-digit dial string in the Routing Rule you have used to bar calls to all mobiles, it will be allowed and your barring rule will be ignored.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I am using an Orchid V4, but cannot use KL's Spreadsheet for reprogramming it as the modem in my PC does not appear to be compatible (I've tried many times).
I signed up to the Heinz programme - Primus Saver (free weekend and weekday evening calls) a few years ago and have had no problems until recently. Now whenever I 'phone a mobile over the w/e I get a message:
"The number you are trying to dial is incorrect, please check the length of the number and try again."
I do not have any problems during week day evening calls, they are routed successfully via Primus.
I've also noticed that I'm registered for the BT Unlimted W/E Plan £11.54 (including line rental).
Could the the problem be that my orchid is trying to route the calls via Primus, but my telephone line is expecting them to be routed via BT.

    Many thanks.
