When you open the 'Phone and Modems' application in the control panel and select the 'Modems' tab what do you see? what COM port is your modem reported as being on?
Seect your modem on the list, click the 'Properties' button, and then select the 'Diagnostics' tab - click the 'Query modem' button - what happens?
What Operating system are you on?0 -
I'm on Win XP. Modem is on COM4 currently, but I've tried changing it to various ports up to COM20 (changing the value in the spreadsheet to match) with the same issue.
Query modem seems to work ok - it resets and responds to most of the commands, with the exception of two 'command not supported' errors

I somehow stumbled on this thread, don't know why as I haven't got a clue what it is about, but I did notice that the OP is trying to help a few of you, and he hasn't had many people hitting that "thanks" button.
Just a thought - doesn't take much! I'm just going to thank him now, for all his time!

Using V1.8.5, Cell A15 is titled Off Peak Time Bands, underneath start time is set as 06 00 and end time is 18 00. Should the start time for OFF PEAK be18 00 and the end time 06 00 or is the title incorrect?0

Just a quick Q, will this spreadsheet work in Open Office or something similar? I don't have MS Office on my laptop, and my desktop doesn't have a modem?
thanks ;-)0 -
Neither - the title is just a little obtuse if you have not read the manual for the V4 - you define the start and end times for weekdays, the rest of the time being off peak, and you define the weekend, which is off peak or weekend rates depending upon your supplierwakeupalarm wrote: »Using V1.8.5, Cell A15 is titled Off Peak Time Bands, underneath start time is set as 06 00 and end time is 18 00. No, Excel or nothing, I have been unable to modify the scripts behind the spreadsheet to work under anything else. the issue is with the hardware calls to the modem, I can find no way to replicate that kind of access under open office et. al.Just a quick Q, will this spreadsheet work in Open Office or something similar? OK thanks, will try and sort something out in that case :-)
[EDIT]
Has anybody tried it on MS Works?
thanks again

I have an oddity with some new Panasonic wireless phones I've just bought to replace my old Phillips ones. I use 18185 for all calls except local ones at weekends, these are just sent through my cable company (Virgin), so I only have the one entry in the carrier code table - 08081703703#####
If I press the call button (to get the dial tone) then enter the number on the phone keypad , it works properly with local numbers but not with national or international numbers, I just get a voice message from 18185 to the effect that the number isn't recognised, and I should try again remembering to add the international exchange dial code.
However if I enter a national (eg 020) number on the phone then press dial, I hear the V4 dial then get the 18185 welcome message then hear the V4 dialing some more numbers and, after quite a long delay, get the 18185 message about the call cost and it then connects ok (most of the time).
I wonder if it needs a longer delay after the 08081703703 dial prefix, but don't know enough about programming to try this. Is it as simple as adding more # characters after the dial prefix, and how to best do this?0 -
Managed to get hold of a copy of excel now...
Does the dialler keep it's settings if I remove from the phone line? It doesn't have an external power supply. If it doesn't, how long do you think it would last?
Just trying to make sure my technique to update the dialler with the new settings, ready for the BT changes to it's Unlimited Evenings and Weekend plan in April, is spot on.
Kevin, thanks again for the spreadsheet!0
