I'm using a Zoom 56K USB Modem and normally have the "Advanced Reset Rqd" cell set to 0. When I tried it as 1, I found that, after a couple of communications with the dialler, it caused a blue screen of death (Dell E5200 computer, XP SP3, Excel 2003). After rebooting, it crashed again after a couple of operations (they weren't the same ones).
Obviously, I'm ok when I use 0 as the value (and the hint says I should) but I thought you ought to know and it may help others who use your spreadsheet.
Cheers

Whilst that behaviour is not by design, it is also not overly surprising - the advanced reset is trying to force a physical com port into a known state, the USB modem is only pretending to be a com port to keep the computer happy so the advanced reset could be interpreted in practically any way - that it crashes is unfortunate but not somethng I can predict or control - turn off advanced reset unless you really need to use it0 -

I am unable to reproduce your problem here - if you have edited the spreadsheet you may have broken one of the range definitions, can I suggest you download a fresh copy and try again to rule out any editing accidents - if that fails we may need to investigate a little furthar, I will need all of the normal detals relating to your set up so that I know what I am looking at0 -
With phonecheap and dialwise, after the number is dialled followed by a #, they ask for a random number to be pressed to continue with the call. What is the workaround with that in terms of programming the dialer? The random number keeps changing.0

Never having used either, I've never come across that before. TBH, I can't imagine how any workaround would be possible.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Many thanks for all the effort which has gone into this excellent tool.
I have just used the table for the first time and it stopped after dialling just 17 routing codes. Also had problems with dialling some of the one-off options (e.g. time, area code).
I have checked that the range definitions had not been altered - they were fine. However, having looked at the macros, I saw that in the sendroutingcodes sub routine there was reference to the "Config" sheet in this call:
'For Each Routing In ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Config").[RoutingCode].'
I know nothing about VBA for Excel but having changed this command to point to the "Main" sheet (and all the other references to "Config" in all the ThisWorkbook.Sheets("") commands where the data ranges are actually on the "Main" sheet) it now appears that all is well. I have run the sheet through the modem (on speaker) and the routing codes dialling now continues right the way through to item 29.
Have I stumbled on the root of a problem with the macros? Or is it that changing the sheet name from "Config" to "Main" was just a coincidence?0 -
It shouldn't actually matter, the range names used are all unique and so should be picked up anyway, however if it works for you it may work for others and there could be some subtle microsoft nuance that I am not aware of (quite likely really)
Next time I re-code the sheet I will incorporate that change since it will do no harm and may fix a few random problems
Thanks for your input

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for a great app, but I am experiencing a slight issue.
I have amended all the values I need including com port. Save the Speadsheet and then click Dialler carrier code table button, but nothing appears to happen. The buttons doesn't appear to press down. Tried all other buttons including Advanced which, looking at the code, should pop up another dialog? Is that right? but nothing happens.
Do you have a solution for this? Or can I invoke the Macros via the tools menu instead? What are the click events behind each button called?
Initially I was trying this from OpenOffice until I saw the comments about not working with OO, so then tried on another machine with built in modem and excel. Still no joy ;-(
Also I saw mentioned there is a diagram of what to plug-in where on the V4. Is there are link for that? Sorry if its under my nose, but just can see it.
Thanks0 -
Macro security is probably set to high and silently disabling the macros - change it to medium so that it prompts you ( and of course you need to say yes to allow them to run or they will be just as disabled just with more noise) you could set security to low, but I would not advise it unless you kow what you are doing.
tools -> macros -> security -> medium
Right click the buttons in design mode and you will be able to read which macro is assigned to each button, hopefully the names are fairly intuative, but since nohing is locked down (by me at least) you can find any info you want - I think if mcro security is high then that won't work, but I have not checked that.
The diagram is on page 2 of this thread0 -
Thanks Kevin. Managed to run the macros manually and all seems to work now. Never managed to click the buttons, but may look into that sometime.
On an other subject, is it possible to have the weekend start at 6pm on Friday and end 6am Monday?0
