Just used the spreadsheet for the first time using a Lucent Win Modem on XP. Everything seems to have worked, will take the V4 back to moms later to test!
I thought if it was disconnected from the phone line, it would loose its programming on account of it not having power..... You really need to program it whilst connected to the phone line it is being used on....0 -

You really need to program it whilst connected to the phone line it is being used on....Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

What is the cheapest carrier for 0871 calls please?
The UK Call checker on the MSE site does not include this number in the drop down box so I don't know whether to route through BT or 18185 or another carrier.
Cheers!
P.S. My Orchid is all set up now using the manual dialling method. I through my old dial up modem out a couple of years ago. It didn't take long to set up and works fine.
Thanks to Heinz and Kevin Lawrey for that.0 -
BT for 0843/0844/0871/0872 and 0873 calls (Routing Code/Rule 12 ensures that and Routing Code/Rule 17 - unnecessarily in my view - duplicates that routing for 0871 calls).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. The clocks go back an hour at 2am BST on Sunday 25th October - so now is the time to change your Orchid dialler's clock setting.
The basic procedure is shown HERE (adjust the day, time and date as necesssary for the precise time you are using the procedure).
Almost without exception, changing the clock at any time this weekend is all that is required (you don't have to wait until Sunday).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Apologies if this has already been answered before, but is it possible to query the V4 in any way to check that manually entered commands have been accepted (eg for changing the date, time etc) or even just to check that the settings have not been lost as the result of a power cut?0

No, regrettably there isn't.
However, a power cut will not cause loss of your program - only the day/date/time settings (which, of course, you will have updated today).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hi Kevin
Many thanks for the updated spreadsheet (1.7.0).
May I suggest that you add an additional worksheet providing a log of changes to the spreadsheet. This need not be verbose e.g. date, cell reference, new value (old value), reason for change (similarly for any macros/other improvements).
This would greatly aid those who have made minor customisations upgrade to a later versions of the spreadsheet.
Also, when programming a sequence of commands e.g. Routing tables, one can click the yellow abort box to terminate the operation early. However, if the com port is busy, one can't terminate early - one has to keep clicking as each message is sent until all rules are exhausted. Is there a possibility that, if the spreadsheet has not already communicated properly with the dialler, it sends a test string before sending the required data. Obviously, the user could just send a single sequence first (e.g. the area code) but they probably won't remember (well I don't).
Many thanks again. Please continue to support us!
Cheers
