You may have excel in design mode, in which case clicking the buttons would just select them for editing - you seem happy enough rooting around in macros so I expect you have done it before, but you just need to drop out of editing mode & things should be sweet.
Yes, but not using the spreadsheet as it stands the manual says thatSet Weekend - *** [dowhhmmdowhhmm] *6
NB. DOW. 1= Monday through 7= Sunday
so you can construct a dial string to match that and punch it in - I may alter the spreadsheet to allow for that when I have a bit of time0 -
Thanks again Kevin,
I think you may be right about edit mode! I am a developer by trade (not excel though) so happy to get 'down and dirty' ;-)
so the following would be 6pm friday to 6am Monday?
This would be perfect for my Postoffice home phone account; particuarly for the free weekend mobile calls as they start from 6pm Friday to 6am Monday. Can't see too many mobile calls being made in the early hours of Monday morning though.
For my own hack, just changed the formula to produce the following on S/S. Will try tonight.

Yep, looks about right to me0

I have updated the spreadsheet to tidy up a few loose ends, and to add the ability to change the start and end days for what is to be deemed the weekend.
Since this is likely to be a fairly rare change I have hidden the settings away on the config page, the default settings give exactly the same result as the current spreadsheet.
If you have no problem with the current spreadsheet there is no need to download this one, the weekend thing is the only feature change.
If you do want that feature however the link is here

Hi Kevin,
firstly, thanks for making this spreadsheet - it's really outstanding, and I wouldn't have had a clue where to begin without it. I am having a problem, however, similar to one mentioned earlier. I've used your version 1.8, but when dialling the routing code the modem stops bleeping at about line 20 or so (I'm not sure exactly where, but around about this line, +/- 1 or 2). The box in the middle with the big yellow ABORT button remains on screen, and the remaining codes appear in the text box - but no noise, and I've tried testing the last few lines (ie dialling the relevant number with my phone) and they don't work. Have you any idea what's going wrong?
I'm using a Toshiba laptop, fairly elderly but generally sound, with an internal software modem on com3.
Thanks again for your hard work in keeping this going, and hope you can suggest what is going wrong here!

ps I'll only be able to check any responses fairly late most evenings, but will get back to you if you need any further info.0 -
I am largely guessing, I have had a couple of people report this problem but I have not been able to reproduce it here.
One thing that springs to mind is that it is a modem specific problem (and soft modems are particularly notorious for having odd problems)
Now I will just ask you to check I have understood you correctly
At about line 20 the modem stops making noises
The on screen box continues to step through the remaining lines
Does it finally finish and have the ABORT box exit returning you to the spreadsheet?
If it does, can you then select, say, cell M30, click the 'Dial Single Table Entry' button and hear the tones?
I am suspecting a poorly written modem driver that get all het up at so many dial commands one after another. You might try changing the value of the 'Post Dial Pause' setting on the config page to something a little higher to see if it makes a difference - perhaps 5 for a start, it will make the whole process take a little longer, but if it works you can reduce it step by step until you hit the problem again.
Let me know how you get on, and in the mean time I will mull things over & see if any ideas come to me.0 -
Many thanks for developing this excellent spreadsheet. I have just downloaded v1.8. First, to add to the list of USB modems it works with, mine is one I think I bought cheaply on eBay. On the outside it calls itself Speed Com+. ATI3 gives Smart Link SmartUSB56.
I see in v1.8 on the config page Advanced Reset Rqd is 1 by default. Is that intentional?
I want to ask a rather unfair question since you have developed it for recent versions of Excel. I have tried it with Excel 97 (since I've never found the need to upgrade beyond Office 97). The Set Time and Dial Single Table Entry buttons work fine, or at least I can hear tones from the modem speaker. The Dial Carrier Code button gives a Compile error: Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment. The .Show of formDialCarrier.Show in the sendCarrierCodes subroutine is highlighted in blue. The Dial Routing Tables button gives the same error in the sendRoutingCodes subroutine. The Advanced button gives the same error with formAdvanced.Show in the subLoadForm subroutine.
I have never programmed in VBA, but since you have supplied the source code I am happy to load the documentation and work through it, but if you have any thoughts it will save me time. It may be that Excel 97 does not support the .Show attribute, in which case the first thing to try may be to delete those lines.
Has anyone confirmed that your red diagram on page 2 of this thread does not work? Ignoring the bell wire (which is irrelevant for modems) any device connected to a telephone line is just sitting on a pair of wires, so direction does not matter. I'm hoping that's right because I want to program a VP3450 phone, where the modem would effectively be connected as in your red diagram.0 -
It is probably the modal attribute of the show command, it was not supported in earlier versions - I don't have a copy of the spreadsheet with me here, but you should be able to find it.
The default values reflect the modem I was last testing on - I forgot to sense check them before I posted the update
The V4 essentially breaks the wires, so it is important to be on the right side of it - it does not pick up the call and listen to it if the modem is on the outside of the unit - I don't have the diagram here (and our work firewall blocks that site) but I am fairly sure it is correct0 -
Further to my last post, the vbModeless command does not appear in the VBA help file for Excel 97. Deleting those commands gets rid of the compilation errors, but then I have to work out how to achieve the same functionality. Showing the Abort box prevents the sending of the tables. I found some guidance at
http://www.excelforum.com/excel-programming/387984-help-with-vbmodeless.html
but I'm going to have to read it several times before I understand it. The easiest way may be to comment out the Abort box, and rely on CTRL break to interrupt if anything goes wrong.0
