Your assumption re '00' Routing Rules is correct - the longest string works (so, if you were calling a 0034 number, your rule which routes all 00 calls via Carrier Code 1 would be ignored if you had a rule which routed all 0034 calls via Carrier Code 8).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Thanks Kevin for the updated Excel spreadsheet which I've downloaded and implemented (without knowing what has really changed in it!).
On a slightly different topic regarding my CPS, I am currently on a BT line with Primus, rather than BT, as my CPS. I've just received a letter from BT inviting me to come back to them. I have considered doing this previously to simplify the number of organisations that I'm involved with (BT, Primus, 18185, 1899 etc) but am wondering whether there are any real benefits in staying with Primus. We make very few calls to mobiles from our landline and, from what I seem to remember Heinz posting here previously, Primus no longer have an advantageous (penny?) mobile rate. I am keen to take advantage of any lower rate 0845, 0870 rates offered by BT and which presumably are programmed into the Lawry spreadsheet but would still prefer to eliminate Primus unless there are any significant advantages in staying with them..
I'd be grateful of any comments regarding this matter
Thanks.0 -
I'm still on Primus's Penny Mobile 2 CPS and, on the face of it, it is still available. Apparently, Primus have sent the pdf, which they sent me some time ago and which I have been circulating as widely as possible, to others when they asked about it.
It might be worth trying a few more times to change to it!
I have to say that, depending on your 'users', Primus's 90 minute call limit can be a real money-saver over BT's 60 minutes even if you can't get onto Penny Mobile 2!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Config page Com Port set at '4' tried Advanced Reset Rqd on 0 and 1. Nothing.
No errors in System/Hardware/Device manager showing.
Anyone got any ideas?0 -
I have a vague recollection of trying to get a USB COM device (can't even remember now what it was) working some time ago and that I had to remap COM 4 to either COM 1 or COM 2 before it would work
Try googling for "remap com port" or some variant and you can probably find out how to do it. Might be worth a try.
EDIT - just remembered, it was to connect to the serial port on my Humax PVR, the software supplied to connect to the PVR would only work on COM 1 or 2.0 -
Without wishing to go the whole 'how to suck eggs' route - have you tried re-booting since the modem was attached? - Always my step one.
Oh, and make sure the diagnostic page is closed in case it is holding a handle on the modem0 -
Hi Kevin again,
thanks for looking at the spreadsheet. I tried what you suggested, and (amazingly!) it actually worked. I clicked the cell, dialled a single entry, and it all went through, nice and noisily. So I then did all the other lines which had not dialled yesterday. What is odd is that I had tried single dialling them yesterday and they had not dialled. The only difference today is that I have not tried dialling the full table since reopening it up, just these few lines only, each separately (yesterday I only tried single dialling after the complete dial had failed to register as already described). I'm mystified... I'm also not sure how to tell whether everything is now safely in the dialler - I guess I'll have to try dialling numbers to check.
Regarding the modem: it is a Toshiba Software Modem (properties state "Manufacturer: Agere".
Thanks again for your help, and your hard work on this spreadsheet.

I have e-mailed you a modified version of the spreadsheet - let me know if it works and then I can make the modification an option in the main release (of course I won't bother if it dousn't  )0

A mate has dropped round a Diamond Supra serial modem complete with software CD and so we cracked open a beer. I'll have a go with it tomorrow morning!0
