  • Hi, Having trouble with changing the codes on my Orchid. I am using a Zoom USB modem and hearing the tones from the speaker, and also tried an internal laptop modem but could not hear any tones even via the handset. I don't hear the dialtone before the codes are sent (should I?).

I have sent reset codes, setting Non Unit Managed etc. all with no effect, the unit still retains its original settings.

When the unit is taking the codes I don't see the LED flashing (Should it be?). It does flash when calls are made. I have also tried to manually send resets to the unit from the handset, again with no effect.

    Using Sheet version 1.8
Connected as per green diagram on front sheet
    Changed cables to alternates

    Does anyone have any ideas?
  • As ever I am assuming you are using an Orchid V4, that is the only type I am able to test on.

Whether or not you hear dial tone before the tones depends to some extent on the modem, but I would expect to - if you don't hear dial tone I suspect that there is a connection problem, usually when we have sounds from the modem the computer side of things is OK.

Before trying to get too clever we need to rule out the simple things, so try connecting the modem directly to the orchid so that any intermediate wires are ruled out, ideally plugging it in to the same socket that your telephone normally plugs in to and then try again.

If it still fails, and you have a spare, swap the lead between the modem and the orchid and try again

If things are not changing even from the handset it sounds like it might be in managed mode, try sending the codes to set it non-managed from the handset before trying anything else - remember you have to hang up between each different command set when dialling by hand
  • Hi, Modem is connected direct, and have tried both sockets. I have also swopped cables a number of times.

I seem to have cleared the settings manually by changing the Managed setting first, then clearing the tables.

Retried the modem to put in new codes, but no luck.

    Indeed strange.

I have just uploaded a new version of the spreadsheet, one minor change that might help with your fault finding.

There is now a button to dial a test number, and stays on the line for an extra 10 seconds, that might not sound like much, but it is enough to establish a phone call to your mobile so that you can confirm your modem is dialling and connecting to the outside world.

There is a new cell on the config page to take your test number, I have left 1471 in there for now as a place marker. the obvious 'naughty' numbers like 999 are not permitted for obvious reasons.

You can if you like download the new file & give that a go.

    What OS are you using?

This looks quite a useful site for XP and modem issues.

Hi I'm also having the same problem, been trying to work it out for months, only other option I can think of is going for a new usb modem. I am using a netbook with xp and excel 2003.

Thaks for the modified sheet, very useful check to make. Unfortunatly I tried it with no luck. I don't get the call through. The dial tone comes up and almost immediatly drops before the dialing tones start (without Orchid in between). I may try to borrow another known working USB modem from someone at work, just in case this one has degraded (packed up) while in the garage for the last 3 years.

Any other thought would be appreciated.

Tried using the modem to dial the Connect4Free number as I did and found my computer/modem combo was duff?

    Hi
I've done this before via your spredsheet but am having a mental block just now as to how to do it again. All calls are CLI barred by default (BT CLI bar option invoked). The only one I want to un-bar is my calls to my mobile so I can see it's the wife calling, yet still routing via 18185.
I seem to remember doing it by adding a 6th carrier code, e.g.
*#**14700712345678*6 (0712345678) would be the specific mobile no)
then added another entry in the Routing Code table.
But for the life of me I can't remember how I did it!
I may have entered the carrier code as 1470181850712345 only to keep under 16 characters.
Am afraid I've confused myself. Appreciate your guidance.
    Thanks
    Rog

    Hi,
Can anyone advise please? I've just changed to Primus instead of BT for line rental, but have now found that my V4 dialler no longer works! It was set for routing via 18185 for daytime calls then to use the Primus saver for free calls after 6 and at weekends. Obviously the Primus bit is no longer needed but I cant understand why the daytime routing isnt working - as I believe that routing is still allowed by Primus?

    Thanks in advance!
    Jim
