I needed to change one rule only. I tried (and tried) but it wouldn't overwrite, and remained as previous.
Eventually I tried deleting all rules and replacing them all (with the new rule amendment required), and this did the trick.0 -

Thanks I might try that - just a little worried that I'll wipe everything and not be able to put it all back!

Quentin, thanks for the tip. I deleted and replaced the rules using the tool. My 0845 calls are now being routed correctly.
I used the default settings-
"Write carrier table"
"Write routing table"
"Send off peak times"
I did not update the "My area code" section. It's currently showing as 01454. Should I change it to my London area code and upload it, and if so, should I use 020 or 0207?
Thanks0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Glad you built up the courage and got it sorted! Since I did this (ie the full delete and restore) I have been able to just alter single strings with no problem.0 -
My line rental was with 1280 and transferred to Pipex when they took over. Back in May / June I started using the current version of this tool but adapted for my needs.
Can't remember why i did it this way, but for calls that were to be routed over Pipex rather than 18185 (eg for free weekend calls) I used a carrier of 1280, thinking that since I don't have a BT line, it would route over my line provider, ie Pipex. I should have used a carrier code of 0 (zero) instead.
What I've only just now found is that, despite the calls being still routed over the Pipex network, they actually charge for these calls. Just found something hidden away in terms and conditions that covers this:"Where You make a telephone call by dialling the “BT Break Out Code” (1280) and You have the Pipex UK Limited Line Rental Service, We will raise Call Charges in respect of that call at the then current standard BT day time retail rate or at Our then current Call Charge rate, whichever is the higher, for the telephone number dialled."So its cost everyone in my family roughtly £5 per month extra for the last few months, above what it would have cost if I'd used carrier code 0, even though in either case the calls are routed over the same network.
Questions -
1. What, technically, should 1280 do?
2. Is it reasonable for Pipex to charge extra when I dial 1280 even though the call doesn't actually go over BT?
3. Does anyone have access to Toucan line rental terms so I can see if Pipex changed this without clearly informing me (when Pipex took over Toucan) - or can anyone confirm how Toucan would have charged for 1280 calls for people with Toucan line rental?
4. Any suggestions if it is worth arguing this case with Pipex to try to get a refund?0 -
1. For those paying line rental to BT but using a CPS calls provider (other than one using BTW's WCLI offering), the 1280 prefix should override the default (CPS) routing of an individual call.
2. My opinion would be no, it's not, but they have cleverly included justification in the T&Cs so I think you'd have difficulty disputing.
Toucan = Pipex = Tiscali = Talk Talk = big fight on your hands
Perhaps, as Katrina and the Waves sang, you should consider "It's a sign of the times" and consider your choice of supplier(s) again.

Thanks Heinz. I do intend to consider that - in fact I wonder about going back to BT along with 18185 etc, they do seem much better these days, although I would of course consider, for example Primus.
However, there is good reason for possibly staying with Pipex - line rental of only £8.90 which is worthwhile when you don't make lots of calls and can't benefit from call packages, and my Mum gets free broadband included in the £8.90 that Toucan offered for some reason (though not me and my Mum in law we're currently using Sky for broadband).0 -
Hello all, long time reader of the site & forums, first time poster. Apologies if any of this has been asked elsewhere, I couldn't find it!
I am in the process of helping my parents sort out their phone bill, as they are paying well over the odds for a BT contract that isn't set up for their needs.
So after doing some research, it seems talk talk & tiscali all in one packages aren't any good because the cost of the line rental isn't included in their area. Therefore, it seems Primus & an Orchid dialler would be the best bet, and getting a seperate broadband package.
I bought the V3 dialler, which when I phoned Orchid up, was all they were offering as they did not sell V4 anymore. I asked what the difference was, and the V3 doesn't include an inbuilt clock.
My questions therefore are:
1) Primus's call charges are free weekend and evenings and 3p/min daytime. 18185 is 5p connection charge anytime. Therefore, I would want 18185 used during the daytime and not used during the evening and weekends. Would this be possible, now that the V3 doesn't have a clock?
2) I know this isn't to do the dialler specifically, but would anyone be able to tell me whether 18185 works with Primus saver 9.49/pm deal @ Home Phone Choices?
3) My father tried to phone an 0845 number yesterday and was unable to, anyone got any idea why?
Thanks,
Onters0
