I would like to share my experiences of Ryanair.

I had never flown with them before and was firmly in the stereotypical anti camp even though I had never used them.

The bookings were made by my employer and were PIK-STN-CIA and the same in reverse. We were booked with 1 hold bag each and with a little preparation and a quick check on the airport scales managed to get 14.9Kg and 14.8Kg cases. 3 flights landed early and the last was 2 minutes late but on time announcement still played.

I can honestly say they were fine, you got offered everything under the sun to buy but not overly intrusive and the food I bought on the STN-CIA going out was good even if a little pricey.

Would I use them again? Yes. Do I wish the hand and checked luggage allowances were bigger? Yes. Will I compare them to Easyjet as viable alternative? Definitely yes. Have I now got a HBOS electron card? Yes.

Just need to get some good cabin baggage. Any suggestions?

    Lovely sensible post.

C'mon folks, any sources for a carry-on bag (canvas or plastic or suchlike to cut down on weight) that EXACTLY fits the Ryanair specs? Even a supermarket grocery bag which fits the specs would do me..........I am not proud or a power-dresser!

    Karma points for any suggestions!

I have a small suitcase which I used to check in (stupid me!) but now I can get away with it in the hand luggage in the bin type thing they make you drop it in. It's class.

Or if I'm going away for just a couple of nights I'll take my work bag..like a satchel type one which everyone seems to have at the moment. Never once had anything said to me

It WAS an obscure card (compared to most of the other suppliers) until people cottoned onto the fact that you could get away without paying the debit/credit card cards by using it.

Those figures I quoted, which incidentally come from Ryanair themselves are dated early 2008. One year on and with the increased card charges and publicity towards the Electron card they are now sure to be a lot higher.
It's never been an obscure card except to those who can get full service bank accounts. To those who can't get a full account (again a large percentage of the UK population) it's been a valuable asset to have in their wallet/purse.

Thanks mate. You are a star. This is exactly what is needed. P and P is free so at £20 it looks like a decent buy.

I have made a deposit in the Bank of Karma for you.

Hi there guys i booked my first flights with ryanair last tuesday going from prestwick to tenerife, however i was looking on friday there and noticed that they have changed the flights outbound from 2pm to 6am, i told them my email address and they have yet to send me a email to inform me of the flight changes, i could see the point if it was a hour or so either way but 8 hours of a difference, is this the way they operate? do you need to keep checking their website and your booking for any changes etc? Also the other person i am travelling with is checking in at the airport as they are putting luggage in the hold, can they also take on hand luggage too, or are they only allowed hold luggage? I was hoping someone who has travelled with them could tell me if they can. cheers:rolleyes:

Thanks for your reply ,well at least i am not coming back from tenerife with ryan air , because i would get worried if they changed our flights coming back of even cancelled them!! and not knowing, being stranded doesn't appeal to us, but one good thing about leaving early it means we will have most of monday now instead of getting there at night time:D . I thought that you could take on hand luggae as well as hold luggage but didn't want to turn up and then more charges etc, oh well hopefully they will keep the flight times as they are because i will need to rearrange a lift as a taxi will cost me more than the flight to get there(taxi is £40) as from here there are no buses at that time in the morning!!
