Quite agree.
Ignoring the way they charge, are you happy that you paid under £45 for a return flight from Glasgow to London? I would be.
If you do plan to use Ryanair more often, then it's worth opening a new bank account with an electron card.0 -
I am continually surprised at people complaining regarding Ryanairs card fees when booking flights.
Simple solution - Apply and get an electron card ! I got mine within 1 week from my local Halifax branch. The credit checking cannot be too severe as I am unemployed and got one with no questions asked. I do agree though that it will only be a matter of time before Ryanair will charge for this card.0 -
I really can't understand why some people click on 'pay' when the price comes up more than expected.
But I didn't say I did...I was quite clear that I was being charged £19.50. I wouldn't go to the trouble of getting an obscure card to save £9.50, hence Ryanair gets their way. £19.50's a reasonable price so I clicked to go ahead. What I object to is the dishonesty...yes, the price is presented, but the headline given is misleading. Put it another way - how happy would you be if you got to the checkout at Tesco to be told that all transactions other than using a very obscure card will be subject to a 100% surcharge?I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
Don't fly with Ryanair if you dislike (almost) hidden charges.
I never have done and shall never do so. There are more honest low cost carriers around.RIP independent MSE.

Ryanair chose an obscure card not used by many people purely so they can advertise cheap headline flights.
.
That would be the 11 million pax annually and rising not many people would it ?
20% of all bookings with Ryanair are made with an Electron card.
OK, it maybe the minority, but thats simply because an Electron card is pretty useless when compared to a full blown debit card so people don't want them.0 -
It is an excessive charge, and considering I have lost my passport (soon to be replaced) I found myself paying nearly an extra £20 per return flight for airport check in and also using a Maestro card.
So I went online, applied for a Halifax Easycash account, got the card a week later and deposited money. You might not like the fact that O'Leary does this, but it is a way around not having to pay the charges...which are in fact just lining his pockets. We could sit on here all day discussing the card policy, it aint going to change, so if you don't like it...get an Electron like everyone else does!0 -

My wife travels with Ryanair regularly. She doesn't have an electron card. Our daughter does. So she uses our daughters' electron card to avoid the charge. However my wife would count as an electron card user. My wife is not alone in doing this.
There are lies, damn lies and statistics.0 -

Your point? The above post said that 20% of Ryanair bookings are made using an electron card, not that 20% of people have one. Whether your wife uses her own card or someone else's is irrelevant, she still counts as an 'electron user' here.0 -
I wrote a reply, in relation to Omelette's post and the Irish non-equivalent of the Home Office immigration manual. But.. my post is now gone.
Who deleted my post? This censoring of MSE is getting tiresome.
I know, and this constant merging of threads is tiresome too. I understand why they do it but I wish they'd use a bit more discretion: it's impossible to read the answers below and understand which questions they're answering, and all sense of logical progression has been lost. Perhaps we could keep this as only 'comments and feedback' and let travel questions stay separate but stop them if they get out of hand? The status quo is only going to make things worse in the long run, because no one reading through this thread from scratch is going to have any idea what's going on, so people will have to start unnecessary new threads...0 -
