  • Turmeric is used as a dye, but it isn't "fast" in sunlight. Therefore, I'd wash it out as best you can, then hang the garment in sunlight. It may take more than one go, mind you.

As far as i know this is the only thing which works on turmeric. I have a skylight in my kitchen so i put my curry-stained dishcloths there for a few days & it seems to work (takes longer in the winter though sorry!)
  • Im Indian, and the best removal method i use is Bicarobnate of soda mixed with some lemon juice, make paste, apply and wash as normal.
let me know if it works

Actually hanging the t-shirt on a coat hanger from a south-facing window works well after a few days, even if the sun isn't out. Sun is the best, though, and has removed curry stains from jeans, t-shirts, bibs, napkins, tablecloths, aprons and shirts over the years. It's free and ecologically sound, too!:money:
  • I've had a quick read through the post here - I don't think anyone has mentioned using Detol (or own brand version). This must be the brown disinfectant liquid not the green one. Just cover the stain with disinfectant - upend the bottle over the stain with just enough to soak the fabric through and bung it in the washing machine. This usually works 1st time on fresh stain but might need another go on older stains
  • this may sound a bit weird but has anybody thought of using napisan?? i normally use it for stains on white/pale clothes as my way of thinking is that it was made to shift stuff from babies clothes including terry nappies which surely means it can shift anything:rotfl: its alo brill for soaking nets in
  • Grandma's Secret Spot Remover works on tumeric - even old stains. You may have to use it twice.

I bought it for about a fiver from an independent shop but now stocked by Lakeland. Really easy to use, lasts ages and environmentally friendly too! It's the only stain remover I now use.
  • I've always found Dr Beckmans Stain Devil for curry sauce works every time if used before washing and it can also be used for coloured clothing. It can be hard to find now but I have just ordered some from ebay £1.69 + £1 delivery.
  • Fab idea!! Worked brilliantly!! Abeit, it was just done so was a fresh stain, but washed off with washig up liquid and cold water no problems. Thank u as was a brand new white superdry top!:T
  • Fresh curry stains - put it immediately into cold water and rub some washing up liquid into it. Wash as normal.

If it's already been through the wash it's harder and I've lost a couple of white t shirts to my dreaded clumsiness when eating, but I'd still try washing up liquid on it.

I have mentioned washing up liquid for getting rid of stains a few times on here so sorry if it's getting really boring! But I needed to wash my sofa cover last week and it had some awful food stains on it. I went over it dotting washing up liquid over every stain and rubbing it in a little before putting in the wash and it came out like new.

Amazing and worked brilliantly!! Thank u so much!! Was a brand new superdry top and still a new looking top minus the curry stain! You're a star!!:T
  • I had a lot of curry stains on my white jeans. After trying star drops, white vinegar and fairy liquid to no avail I tried flash with bleach spray which I use in the kitchen. I rubbed it in and it dulled the yellow, I did a lot of light rubbing but didn't go altogether but was getting better so I sprayed plenty on and left for about an hour and it had completely vanished. Maybe rubbing wasn't necessary.
