Have you tried using the sun? Leaving it out in direct sunlight, the brighter the better, generally has a pretty good bleaching effect. It's definitely worth a try, for the sake or pegging it out and leaving it there. I've also heard that leaving it out come rain or shine for a few days can do the trick.

Failing that, on a plain white top I would use a fairly strong bleach and cold water solution to soak it, let it dry, then re-wash.

Really, really cross with myself. Last night, lovely new white top - second time on; 3 yellow curry stains down front.
Fortunately, I was at home, so took it straight off, applied Ariel liquid, neat. (I hate that stuff, but mum uses it, so I always have some in). Soaked top overnight in tepid water with more Ariel. Washed it this morning at 60 degrees, with bio powder and a scoop of Vanish.
Two of the smaller stains have gone, but the biggest has only faded slightly. :(
I have now sprayed it with De Solv It spray, which I should have used in the first pllace, but I wasn't thinking straight, and will wash again and hang out in the sun, if there is any.
Moral of story, do NOT wear best white clothes for eating curry.

My OH went out for a curry with his mates the other night and the waiter managed to spill curry on his jeans when he was clearing the plates away:eek:

I've washed them (probably the wrong thing to do?) but there is still a bright yellow stain left. Other than going back to the restaurant to ask them to pay for the dry cleaning (which OH does not want me to do), has anyone got any suggestions please on how to get the stain out??

    Thanks

get a bit of soap and a nail brush and rub or pour the soap onto the stain - scrub hard with the nailbrush! if you see the stain lighten then this method WILL work eventually!
If it doesnt then you need to bring out the big guns!
get hold of a box of Biotex or Napisan - start off with really hot water and soak the jeans overnight - then wash on the hottest wash they will take. They may lighten a bit - but if you use bleach you will lighten them a LOT and weaken the fabric.

Very very difficult to remove a curry stain of clothes, the stain is basically oil & spices..In all honesty,if the waiter knew he did it,I'd approach the resturant & ask them to foot the bill for a new pair of jeans.
A friend dripped the same sort of oil on the tiles in his front porch about 20 years ago,the stain is still there...

Thanks meritaten, I'll try with the soap and nailbrush first, then the second option if that doesn't work.

And I'm with you on that option Spike, but OH doesn't want to make a fuss(?) Apparently the waiter apologised when he did it and offered him a drink to compensate!

Its the Turmeric which causes the stain hun - but I have managed to get it out of jeans by using one or both methods. I only use bleach if I absolutely HAVE to! Then tried to get a matching bleach mark on the other leg! lol

I agree with spike too, you'll never get that stain out

it'll be the turmeric, it stains horribly on its own & it's worse mixed with oil, even bleach doesn't shift it :( ... my poor teatowels :rotfl:

EDIT .. cross posted with meritaten, darn my slow typing :o

Does anyone know what they use on curry house tablecloths?
They usually look nice and clean BEFORE I have had my dinner.

I use De-Solv-it Stain Remover and pre wash for numerous cleaning jobs including getting curry stains from fabric. It's brilliant stuff. You can buy from Tesco it is in a blue and orange aerosol can and is located with the stain remover products.
