I've removed curry stains before. I don't find it helps to scrub the surface or rub stuff in, that pushes the stain in rather than out. Place the fabric stain side down on a clean rag and pour ammonia in from behind and rub the back to push the stain out in to the rag. So far this has always worked for me.

I agree that it's probably the turmeric that's the culprit. It's also used as a fabric dye, but it isn't "fast" in sunlight, and has to be "fixed". (You don't want to know what they use to do this.)

So, wash it and leave it in sunlight. I've used Stardrops and sunlight on curry stained tea towels. OK, it will take more than one go, but it does work eventually.

  • I had this problem after a great night out at a friends hen night. I had a pair of cream linen trousers...that was a mistake.

Anyway, I washed them (which I imagine gets rid of the grease) and still had a bright turmeric stain. After asking for help on this site, I was advised to leave in bright sunshine. it is something to do with UV(?) breaking down the colouring....i was really sceptical but tried it and.....worked a treat.
The problem is that there isn't a lot of bright sunshine at the moment...wonder if it would work on a sunbed etc.

    good luck

  • I second the de-solv-it stain remover. Spilled some curry on a new white T shirt, used this and it all came out. Use it on all stained fabric now and not failed me yet. It doesn't smell very nice though.

I recommended this to a colleague that had spilt curry on a new cream carpet he was so grateful that it removed it as he was in a lot of trouble with his girlfriend.

the stuff you can get for removing jam jar labels......sticky stuff remover?????

brilliant for stains and grease on other things as well. it also got trodden in chewing gum out of my carpet. but denim jeans will likely fade whatever you use.

    I've been wondering too

if some of the remedies work I'll try them on my ever-growing stash of general purpose mopping up cloths tea towels that I hide from guests :D
  • Hi

Thanks for asking how it went.

I went to Te**o to get some De-Solv-It but they didn't have any in our store (it's quite a small store) sooooo I tried Stardrops on it which has actually done quite a good job :T . There's just a very faint mark left on there now and it looks a heck of a lot better than it did. Will have a look in the big Mr T next time I go in to town. At least OH can wear his jeans without it being noticeable too.
