I am disabled with a balance problem and cannot walk on the darn frozen stuff anymore, nor can I drive now. Precisely because of this I keep good stocks of all types of food, especially in the winter. The only real problem has been that the milkman has not come at all this week, and I hadn't got any milk frozen, so DH has had to pick milk up on his way home most evenings. I could never have had the 18 pints that we use in a week frozen anyway. I have got dried milk for cooking but don't like it for cereal and drinks.

Am now wondering whether the milkman will turn up tomorrow. Has anyone else in London and the SE been without their usual milk delivery?

Wow - you all have my deepest sympathy for your problems. Obviously, we don't know how lucky we are here in Liverpool!

We had snow overnight two weeks ago and it melted within two days. Since then we've had some very cold weather and little bit more snow on Tuesday evening but again it was gone by the next morning. Think there was another 10 minutes of the stuff this afternoon, but when I looked again, it had stopped.

Hoping that it doesn't last much longer for you all - take care, keep warm and look out for your elderly neighbours

I haven't been out for over a week but my bil braved the storm as few days ago and managed to get us some veg and milk (they live very close to me which is handy!). I have enough food in to last a while yet though I'm getting low on cheese and eggs, I have plenty of frozen and tinned veg and fruit; the bm will be on tomorrow to make a few rolls and I shall be hunting in the freezer for some stewing meat to use with the last of my fresh root veg to make a big pan of stew that should last me several days. I hope by then I'll be able to get out to the shop, and that the shop has had some deliveries of course! ;) my sympathies to anyone having to brave the tesco scrum, sounds horrendous. We had snow today and more forecast for monday night and tuesday morning so we'll wait and see how much we actually get. I have candles, lamps and torches ready - I worry that as the snow piled up on the power cables freezes it will bring the cables down

lka200, I dont have a car anymore but if I did I wouldnt be driving in this weather, I was always nervous and that made me dangerous :D unfortunately I live on a steep hill and the pavements are still thick with ice so I wont chance them either!

Keep safe and warm everyone ;)

I hate driving in it as well...but bless the Astra, it's been good. Automatics make it much nicer. We're lucky really - we can walk to the local spar/butchers/newsagents/petrol station to get the essentials.

The PITA in this weather is our prepay meters..specifically the gas one. Snowy cold night, cooking..and "!!!!!!", off goes the gas and CH. Cue me stood outside shouting obscenities at the gas meter which is sitting at "please wait..." while it switched to emergency credit..:rotfl:

I'm trying not to walk in it..I also have shot legs and shot balance, with a knee that comes out of joint oh-so easily..

Fine! I'm a compulsive food storer LOL. I could go a long time without ever doing a shop to be honest - I do one generally weekly though, for fresh fruit and veg. Kids go through it at an alarming rate. I do have frozen/canned for standby though.
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Starting to get 'Stir-Crazy' now. Not used my car since Wednesday night, as we have had deep, deep snow Thurs, Friday, no thaw and frozen ice on roads and paths. I walked to the Coop, which is about 30 mins to walk on a good day anyway. Schools were shut Thurs and Friday, and am wondering if they will stay shut Monday. I got to get to work in the next town. Too far to walk, and I am really scared to go in the car. Wondering if the busses will be running. However, if the kids are off school, not sure I would go into work and risk leaving them at home all day long, they are 9, and 13.
    keep smiling,

Interesting post. I returned to the country yesterday after 10 days away. I knew that it had snowed a lot while I was away, but no idea the weather was having this effect on peoples' lives.

I left my dh and ds for 10 days and I think the only thing they bought was some fresh milk and bananas! apart from that they had meals from the freezer that I have stashed (HM) and the odd meal with MIL. I think a visit to the chippy when they were late home one night. I don't suppose they had separate veg when they were eating at home, but my ready meals have veg in them. DH has fruit for lunch. DS made his own packed lunches apart from a couple of days, I had bought a couple of loaves (shock horror!) to make life easier for them, but they ended up putting the BM on after the first loaf as they decided it was worth the effort as they prefer HM! I left a couple of pizzas, but ds said mine are so much nicer! Good to be misssed eh?

Been in Mexico for 10 days visiting my dd. Tried some new foods. THe centre she's working at has great food, all made from scratch. What a luxury to be cooked for! Of course dd was more interested in having some meals out, but I have to say, I really enjoyed the food at the centre. Very healthy diet really. A fresh veg or veg dish at each lunch, usually a dish of stewed up beans and a main dish. ALso little tortillas. Lovely HM salsas etc as well
Breakfast with cooked choice and cereal, fresh fruit and yoghurt.

There were puddings, but served in little dishes, sometimes fresh fruit. We had egg custard, fresh strawberries, choc-orange mousse to die for, ice cream, just a small scoop. can't remember what else.

She said it's not the food at the centre that has put a bit of weight on her, but all the baking and cooking that the volunteers do at the times when they cook for themselves! I lost a pound I think!

Will have to think about what she says though, as he only uses litter tray sometimes and steals any scrap of food that is not hidden in fridge, as this was not his normal way of life not sure what he means, if I thought that he were suffering I would not be happy, but he seems ok most of the time.
Marie, just my thoughts here, if Luca seems ok, is eating and affectionate, I can't see that he's suffering. Usually when a furbaby is suffering they do not eat and do not want to have much contact with their human family. They seem to prefer being away and alone from what is going on around them. I believe that is an instinct with them when they're ready to pass on.

Sometimes tho, they do their best to hang on for us. We had to have our old lab put down last summer. Although in pain from arthritis and probably just old age, he still enjoyed life it seemed. However the balance tipped and we knew without a doubt that it was time. We could just tell when he looked at us if you know what I mean.

I guess what I'm trying to say is trust yourself to know if and when it's time. You're his mum and you will know what is best for him.

    Lots of gentle hugs,

    Peyton xx
