Family happy as have just had roast pork, yorkies, mushy peas, carrots, sprouts and roasted potatoes and leeks with gravy ( a veggie quarter pounder for our youngest DD).
Dishes and pots sorted out and cleaned the hob.
Going out to get some vanilla extract so I can try to make the chocolate fudge pud for the first time with DD to help.
Might bake some rolls later and try to find the Tightwad gazette recipe for cheese and onion muffins as DD has agreed to try these as a packed lunch for school.
Need to nip out now so see you all later"This site is addictive!"

According to the weather forecast it's going to snow here in half an hour! Not got rid of the last lot yet. I love it when it is fresh but hate dirty slush and knobbly ice!
Blitzed the bathroom this morning and got rid of all the "nearly" empty bottles.
OH at work this morning then we had a surprise visit from DS1, DIL & DGD.
Decided not to bother with the planned Sunday roast with trimmings and just had roast chicken, jacket potatoes & cauliflower cheese. Had a walk to Mr T's while it was cooking and managed to pick up a few whoopsies to keep us going. OH was sighing as everytime we make a space in the freezer I keep filling it.
I've just joined Twitter too as Richard Bacon was talking about it last week on SFTW. Took the liberty of adding a few MSE peeps that I came across.
Enjoy the rest of the day folks!:j New Year, New You = 1.5lb/12lb:j0 -

Bunny, they say that cooking is an art, baking is a science. Basically in science you are relying a lot on specific reactions rather than just the intermingling of flavours, so for the best results you have to follow the recipe as closely as you can. I always follow a baking recipe to the letter the first time I try it, to check it works! .........
Sorry for butting into the thread - I don't normally post on here though I do read most days.
I didn't 'do' Domestic Science/Cookery at school but I DID do Chemistry. When I first got married, 37yrs ago, I couldn't cook at all, but I had learned how to follow a Chemistry experiment and I reckoned that cookery/chemistry were two sides of the same thing.
So, I approached cooking/baking in the same way that I'd been taught Chemistry- and still do to this day. I even write up recipes in a folder in the same way that I was taught to write up experiments - but hey, it works for me!

You see there in lies the problem, I'm one of these people who treats a recipe as more like general guidance! I tend to skim read the recipe or I haven't got all the right bits so I improvise or miss steps out completely! I've no-one to blame but myself.:o Actually my efforts today haven't turned out quite a bad as I thought they would, I think my expectations are too high (too much Delia/Nigella) and they aren't as pretty as they should be but they taste blooming lovely (which is the important bit!) Got a load of sticky buns now which the kids will have for pudding tonight (i'm on WW!) after our lentil curry & rice (am I the only one whoes kids ADORE lentils?! Weird chilblains!).
Glad everyone is having a good day, and thanks for making me welcome, will try to keep posting on the daily thread.0
