Daily OS thread - Sunday 8th Feb

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 8th Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Morning lovely friends!

Cold and frosty here but no snow.

Tru - I have sent Tristan that hug in his email (sorry, I forgot to come back to the daily thread til around 0800 yesterday morning when I was on my way back to bed!). I know he will appreciate it. He can't do much except lie in bed or on the couch right now but he feels so much better being home with his family. The kids barely leave his side, it's so cute to hear them playing in the room next to him.
PenPin - Good luck for your OHs' signing exam - big hugs to you hon
JackieO - I hope you had a great birthday. As a breast cancer survivor I do understand the dark days but the good days make up for them. It's been 9 years for me and I am still fine.
Sweet peanut - hope you feel better soon hon
Mioliere - Sorry that your OH's going through such a bad time work-wise
Lesley - it isn't that the hospital 'let' him out, he discharged himself on Thursday. He HATES hospitals, he really does - when he fell off his bike he discharged himself the next day with a broken collar bone, 84 stitches in a broken leg and a gashed head. I think it's almost a phobia. Anyway, all I know is that once he is able to call for transport, he checks himself out and goes home - always has!
R.mac - any wee sproglets yet?
Mudgekin and moggins *hugs* to both.

I haven't spoken to Tris yet, not sure if he will log on. I am hoping he is resting more.

OS wise - last night we had the lovely belly pork from the butchers - the OH got back from his enforced 'holiday' in Taunton just before midday so had the afternoon here before toddling back up there for his gig. He had been to Asda to buy clean clothes - mens shirts for £4, a thin jumper for £3 and of course underwear!

Today being Sunday I think we will defrost something from the freezer and have it with roast potatoes. We also have the pork skin the butcher gave us free, so will enjoy eating that!! God I love crackling! *does an unattractive Homer Simpson style drooool*. We still have all the home baked things for high tea.

Ok, so I think I will finish here and go make a cup of tea and have some crunchy nut cornflakes for breakfast. The cat loves it when I am up early like this - she gets to have a breakfast now and another one when my OH surfaces mid morning!

Hugs to everyone who wants one and have a relaxing and enjoyable Sunday.

Good morning MSD - good to hear that Tristan is home and feels so much better. Good, also, that your OH is home, too! Thanks for your thoughts about my DH and his work; it's what comes of being self-employed - I've never been happy with it because it makes both life and income erratic, but no doubt we'll get through it. There are far worse things going on in other people's lives.

Last night's stew was lovely and I have enough left over for dinner again on Monda - we love it more the second time around.

Dinner today is roast chicken, roast potatoes and carrots, and steamed cabbage, with gravy. Pudding will be a piece of the Victoria Sponge that DH has said he'll be making this morning.

Well, I was up early again; I can get to sleep OK but then, two or three hours later, I am wide awake. My mind is doing overtime. It didn't help that, in the night, DH leaned across me - squashing me - to reach the phone that is at the side of the bed. He woke me up because he can never do anything quietly or gently; when I asked him what he was doing, he said he thought he heard the phone ring. So then, I had to check all the phones to see if anyone had rung, but he must have dreamt it. By then I was wide awake and decided to get up for a cuppa. Oh,well, I shall have a nap later to make up for the lack of sleep!

Reverbe - I found this this morning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIk4ZwMnuH8&feature=related It looks like a really easy tutorial about French knitting, done on a really chunky spool. There is a 'part 2' which you'll find on the right hand side but it has more than four pins on the spool, which may be a bit ambitious at the moment! Let me know how you get on!

Well, today, apart from cooking and catching up on sleep, I intend to try and have a relaxing day. There's no sign of snow here but not so sure about the rest of the country so, if anyone is still having problems, I hope it all clears up soon. Some of the local authorities have said they could not afford to keep in adequate supplies of salt and grit; perhaps if they hadn't invested - and lost - so much money in Icelandic banks, they'd have enough to do what they are supposed to do - look after them. Rant over!

Anyway, I'm off for another cuppa and a sit down on the sofa under a blanket, where I'll probably doze off and wake up really late!

I hope all those who are unwell or anxious have a good Sunday. (((Hugs))) to everyone.

    Morning.

All quiet here. Warmed up a bit, so we will get tons of rain today and tomorrow instead of tons of snow. Shame that.
Chruch this morning and then to my parents for lunch. Looking forward to that for a change. 2 kids will be working, so there will be intermittent ferrying about.
Looked at a few new cars yesterday, well second hand. Dealerships still seem to want top money for stuff, I guess they can stay put then.
    Really unusual thing happened yesterday.
As we were at this garage looking at cars I heard a bang and thought there had been an accident. What had happened was this estate car was driving down the road when the hatch of the estate opened and a boxer dog and it's basket flew out of the back and tumbled down the road. We picked it up and it seemed OK. About 10 mins later the distressed owner returned and collected him. I guess you should always be sure you close the boot properly.

Well coffee and get a paper.... Cheers

Good morning to everyone. We still have remnants of snow in the garden but yesterday was nice & sunny but the wind would have cut you in two.........it did however dry my washing, which I got ironed. Much sniffing of towels yesterday! I love the smell when they have beendried outside.

Any suggestions for dealing with a very untidy 12 year old dd? Part of me feels 'her mess she can live with it' but the biggest part feels she should keep it reasonably tidy as we all live in this house. her bedroom is just such a tip at times.

Will probably bake today and I must finishing painting shower room. I must! There it's in print for everyone to see so I must!

Good Morning all, thank you for all your good wishes yesterday and Nelski thank you for me pressie, quite perked me up this morning;) What a scallywag you are:D I had an absolutely smashing birthday My brother phoned me at 0.7.30. in the morning from France bless him, and then I had just got back about 9.00 from the shop and the postman delivered some more cards and what I thought was a bill and it was a letter from Capitol One saying they had overcharged me lat month by a few pennies by a mistake on their computer and were refunding me a quid !!and also I had a birthday card from the Dove hair-products people with a free sample. From then on the day just got better and better.the phone kept going and I had some nice calls from my friends and then my sis-in-law arrived.lots more nice bits and pieces ,one of which was a beautiful candle with a gorgeous smell to it. My eldest DD arrived with her bits for her old Mum ,one of which was a lovely book all about the 1950s-60s with all the old adverts in which was so weird to look at and see how few products were left today.Around 12.30. my youngest DD arrived with all the grandkids and her husband and I had so many things from her and the children. The little one Mikey, never left my lap bless him he was squirming with excitement. They all eventually went around 3 .30 as they were all off to the library for new books.
Sis -in-law and I went out to dinner last night and had a really nice one which bless her she wouldn't let me pay even half towards ,so I said in August when its her birthday we will have a day in London and it will be my turn. Then last night we just sat and nattered away ten to the dozen until we eventually toddled off to bed just before midnight.
I had some great things and I feel such a lucky person to have so many nice folk around me .Today I am going to a craft demo in Maidstone and my pal is picking me up so I don't have to drive, and we will have some lunch out and then tonight I shall toddle off as usual to my DD's armed with Mikey's 'tubby custard'
I was so touched by what you all wrote yesterday and I'm really not any sort of 'super woman' just a 'cussed old dear' who refuses to give up. My husband always said I look on the bright side of everything and my glass was always 'half full' and I suppose he was right I do try to see the funny side of things and smile quite a bit as I do find nowt so funny as life, and do love people.
probably why I liked my job before I retired, as it was very people orientated.
Anyway enough of the 'blethering as my old Mum used to say .I hope everyone has as brilliant a day today as I had yesterday, and feel as full of the joys of life and living as I do ATM. <<hugs to you all if your feeling a bit blue>> and again a big thank you from me and mine to you and yours
    Cheers Chums:A :A

    Good morning everyone :D

A leisurely start to the day for the apple_mint household. I'm curled up under the blankets, surfing the net (I love wireless broadband :D). I had to reinstall firefox because it was refusing to start, but I'm here now.

Today it is turkey wings for us. We got a huge turkey at Christmas and had to chop it into pieces as it was too big for us. I haven't decided what to do with the wings yet, but there seems to be plenty of meat on them for the two of us. We need to go shopping as we are getting down on food stocks. We've done quite well this month as we haven't touched this month's budget yet. We do need to get some more fresh fruit though.

Have a lovely OS day everyone :T
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

    Morning peeps

Brr i`m cold! the snow that was supposed to happen overnight didn`t happen:j however i`ve just checked the weather and it`s going to come down tonight apparently:eek: i shall keep checking the weather forecast today though as it seems to alter every couple of hours:rolleyes:

Diva - It`s lovely to hear that Tristan is home and with his family

JackieO - Glad to hear that you enjoyed your day yesterday

After clearing up the kitchen last night i fell asleep on the sofa, no surprise really as i was bushed but i shall make sure that i`m in bed early tonight.

Mr Sunny is doing the supermarket run with Dad today whilst i`m at w*rk and they are going to Asda, i`ve written a very specific list with all the prices on because i checked everything on the website and he has strict instructions not to buy replacement items for anything that he can`t find. It`s usually things like that which upset the budget so i`d really rather do without or find a replacement item locally IYKWIM.

Dinner tonight is toad in the hole with jacket potatoes and broccolli, carrots etc and i have some of the lovely soup that i made last night for lunch.
Breakfast will be hm marmalade. I brought some to w*rk which didn`t set properly and it`s really delish. I can really taste the ginger in it and its really chunky with bits of orange. I`ll stop now as i`m making myself feel hungry and break time is quite a way off lol.

I shall go and do some w*rk and warm up a bit.

Have a lovely day everyone - keep warm.

    Morning All

JackieO - glad you had a lovely birthday.

Well its cold here again today but no rain or snow :j

Will be pottering around today doing a bit of everything, housework/paperwork/ironing but will also be chilling.

Need to clean up first thing as the dogs have had upset stomachs - sorry if too much info first thing - certainly was too much when I first got up! Will try and take them for a long walk.

Have a lovely bit of beef rib for lunch followed by lemon meringue pie with cream - diet starts tomorrow :D along with doing 40 mins of cardio exercise each day. This will include walking the dogs and I will dragging out the wii fit again. NO excuses.

Anyway off now to try and do my bingo scratchcard - the site has been done the last couple of days.
