Hello all - cold here but bright which is nice as we were discussing going for a walk this afternoon.

    Welcome Bunny!

I too have joined twitter but am struggling to find my way around it at the moment - I have added a couple of MSE peeps though Salopman and Silvercharming so I shall see how it goes. I've been thinking about it for a while so thanks for the nudge!

Roasties, parsnips and yorkies in the oven for lunch - I shall add salmon and steam some veg in a moment. MrEH will be impressed when he realises there are yorkies! ;) Tea will be bits and bobs - we got some Port Salut cheese yesterday and I have some other stuff I want to use up in the fridge - I'll probably make cheese muffins to have with that too. Not done those in ages! Other things to be done today are the meal plan for next week - I just bought the basics when I was shopping so have to eat from the freezer and storecupboard this week again. I think I will also make a shopping spreadsheet so I can keep an accurate check of exactly what we are spending on food. I know roughly but a slightly more precise picture would be useful.

    Afternoon all!

My dd2 and dd3's room is ready for me to paint finally, thought I'd get started yesterday, but the mess was worse than even I expected lol! So that'll be my afternoon taken care of!

So far I've hoovered (who dropped the rice everywhere and walked it all through the house?!), given the kitchen and good clean and found new home for some of the stuff, or perhaps they were the original homes (can you guess where my girls get their untidyness gene from!), put bm for rolls, put in duck to roast, got Mrs M's lemon roasties going and just need to do the veg, will be red cabbage, carrots and sprouts, and mashed swede and celeriac, with the inside bits of the parsnips that were left after I made the crisps on Friday.

Pud is yet to be decided, but could well be choc fudge cake, or thrifty pud as it seems to have become in our house! Thanks Thriftlady!

Supper tonight will be something simple, on toast or egg based, with a big cup of cocoa.

Will catch up a bit whilst the girls are just hoovering, have a good day all, hugs to those in need xx

  • Hello everyone...very cold in Cumbria, but no fresh snow:p
Went for a walk earlier and took my camera with me.Then back to a big bowl of HM pea and ham soup. Bought a ham hock at MrM yesturday £1.49. covered with water, boiled, drained then covered and simmered for 3 hours. Took all meat off. Left stock overnight, skimmed. Peas had soaked overnight, covered with water, boiled then drained. Put peas and stock together with carrot, celery and onion and simmer for 1 hour, whizzed added ham, yummy. Made 8 portions...trouble is my freezer's nearly full:eek: also enough meat left for tonights tea, with veg and gravy.

    Hi,
Sorry im no good at banking/ or was it baking? Well im no good at both to be trufull.

    :rotfl: at Halight!

Bunny, they say that cooking is an art, baking is a science. Basically in science you are relying a lot on specific reactions rather than just the intermingling of flavours, so for the best results you have to follow the recipe as closely as you can. I always follow a baking recipe to the letter the first time I try it, to check it works! No point blaming yourself for a duff recipe. Then if all goes well I might adapt it. There's a fair amount of trial and error involved, but eventually you will start to get a feel for what might work and what won't. Anyway, I'm not a baking expert, so I'll leave the in-depth for someone who knows what they're talking about :D

    I'm baking this today:

You do know that calories don't count if you bake it from scratch don't you? :p:o:p

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :rotfl:

In all honesty most of it will get sliced up and taken round all the old folk on my street, it looked so nice I had to try it but I don't think even Dave will be able to polish it off that quickly!

    Afternoon Everyone,

(((((((((((hugs)))))))))))) to all with the flu, treatments & job worries firstly.

Had a busy morning here swapping drawers around to make room for my young guests things - not that he's got many bless him. It gave me a chance to go through everyones drawers (ooh dh wishes ;) ) and throw/recycle old things. The duster & cleaning rag pile under the sink is looking healthier now anyway :D

Potato hash for tea - a big favourite up in these parts. Think savoury mince with added potatoes, carrots & stock mix of dried pulses. Some people serve it with a crust of pastry I go for crusty YS bread :T We all had quick sandwiches & hm soup from yesterday for lunch. I've got to get ds2 homework done, sew some buttons back on an ever growing pile of shirts, do some ironing & sort out everyones plans for the coming week. It now requires a wall calendar & diary as there's so much happening  ;) But we're getting there!

I'd better get on with some of it I'll pop back to read the thread later. Much love to you all & prayers to those who want them.

    Louise xxx
