My real question is when does the £5 interest get paid? If i opened my account on the 10th of this month (April) and paid in £1000 on the 15th April, will the £5 be accreditted at the end of April (or other arbitrary date that denotes the start of halifax's month)? On the 10th of may (eg a month after i opened the account)? or on the 15th May (a month after the £1000 first went in)?

The T&C say (IIRC) that it will be paid within the first ten days of the month, but experience on this forum seems to suggest that it generally hits the account overnight between the 1st and 2nd of the month. (Might be another day or two if the 1st or 2nd is a weekend - or might not - but either way, it gets paid early in the month, not on an anniversary date.)
  • Just re-reading the thread, I'd missed the bit where you have to leave £100 in each account overnight to 'activate' it and get sent your cards and PINs. For now, I've split the thousand that's in there between the three accounts and will leave it in until tomorrow and try again.

Oh yes that correct. Forgot to mention this. You need to the £100 to activate account.
This entire thread is quite informative and may answers to all possible FAQs
  • Could do with an abstract of the various bits in the first post maybe.
  • Just for reference- leaving £100+ in the accounts overnight did indeed activate them and I was able to transfer money out this morning. Also, I decided to chance my arm and set up a Bank of Scotland account but had the application declined. Presumably, new customers can now only have 3 Reward accounts across both BOS and Halifax and not 3 with each.
  • Oh man consumer revenge makes me feel so damn good!!

I've now got 3 reward accounts and have been bouncing the same £1k around, not forgetting to put it back into my saving account once I'm done for a bit more cash. My missus is doing the same. I've also got an Easycash account with them with the Electron card to bleed Ryanair a bit too. But I'm sure you savvy people already know all about that!

Roll on Friday for a free £15 quid!

i applied for a bank account, and now need to activate it by paying in £100:j

i will be paying in 1k per month to get the free £5, the 1k that i will be putting into this account every month is my wages that i want to try and save, ( so i am not using just the one 1k )so is there another Halifax account i can apply for that i can gleen either another £5 or some sort of bonus from?

edit... instead of just putting the min of £100 to activate the account, if i put in the £1000 today, will this entitle me to the £5 for April?

You can open up to three Reward accounts and cycle the £1000 through them each month.
