I don't have a student account :) He called and they did the application over the phone.

My Mums is a Ultimate Reward Account. It was fine until this month.

She found it a little bizarre.
  • We have currently got 5 reward accounts with halifax 1 joint account and 2 single accounts each between me and my wife. Is it possible to change the joint account to 2 single accounts aswell? and what is the best of going about this?
I think they would convert it into one single account for one of you and then you could open another one.
Have you both tried opening 3 single ones each as well as your joint account?

I thought you could have 7 between a couple. maybe I'm wrong.

I've got a HICA and 3 separate reward accounts, I've heard that at some point they might convert the HICA into a reward account as well.

I tried opening a BOS reward account but was declined.

Having a joint HICA, I managed to open 3 Reward Accounts, but husband only managed 2. The reason they gave in their letter (after he'd queried it), was that the underwriter who dealt with husband's third account application wanted to see some activity on the other two first (apart from the opening balance). When he said that the "activity" on his accounts had been identical to my 3, the answer was that a different underwriter had dealt with my third application, and different underwriters make different decisions.
  • I've read most of this thread, but would appreciate a quick recap on this-

I've opened 3 Halifax accounts with no problem, can I open 3 BOS accounts as well, or has that been clamped down on now?

For the £1000 monthly funding, is it sufficient to transfer £1000 from an external source, then just pass it straight on between the various Reward accounts and back out to the original funding account? Or does it have to reside over night on each transfer?

    Thanks in advance.

Some have been able to open the BOS accounts as well, but I think someone posted that they'd been contacted by BOS saying that the account they'd opened was to be closed due to the fact they'd opened 3 Halifax Reward accounts.

You can do exactly what you said above (ie not leaving the money in overnight and moving it from one Reward account to another). As long as the account has received £1,000, you will get the £5. You would also qualify if the £1,000 was made up of smaller amounts, say £200 x 5 times into an account, as it still triggers the £5 (a total of £1,000 having gone into the account).

Hmm- I've set up 3 Halifax accounts, paid in £1003 to the first one and shuffled it between the three accounts (leaving a pound in each). From the last Halifax account, I tried to set up a payment back out to my A&L current account and it's telling me I'm not allowed to make payments out. Any idea why this is? Could it be that the accounts maybe aren't completely set up yet as I haven't yet recieved debit cards etc?

Yes, people have reported similar probs. It may take a few days before you can do this.
  • OK, cheers for that. Lucky I've got an interest free overdraft with the A&L then!
  • I set up my account earlier this month. I waited for 2 days before transferring a small amount of money from an external account (natwest) to the halifax reward account.

It was almost instantaneous (and it was a Sunday too), so I was very impressed. And when i transferred the money back out, it was within my external account within 2 hours. So no probs with money transfers for me.

My real question is when does the £5 interest get paid? If i opened my account on the 10th of this month (April) and paid in £1000 on the 15th April, will the £5 be accreditted at the end of April (or other arbitrary date that denotes the start of halifax's month)? On the 10th of may (eg a month after i opened the account)? or on the 15th May (a month after the £1000 first went in)?
