Halifax reward account online now, and the old accounts....

I agree with this above over the enthusiasm shown to open several Reward accounts. I have 2 now and got 2 x £5 for March, but if I use my Halifax accounts with a nil balance (as I do now there is no in-credit interest) then any payments will take me past zero and I have to spot whenever this happens by checking the balance (well!) daily. I wonder how long it will be before even I make a slip up (It only has to be -1p for five days in a month remember...)?You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0

Lol..no.
On my account I had just transferred £300 from 2 accounts and my OH was in the process of doing his first transfer.Herman - MP for all!0 -

If you're likely to make a mistake, why leave it with a nil balance? If you think it's possible that you might make a mistake then that's an insane thing to do, whether or not they pay interest. For the £5 reward to be worse than interest you'd need to have an average balance of well over £1000. Putting an extra £50 in to avoid mistakes will cost you a negligible amount in lost interest elsewhere.0 -

Hence my frustration. The accounts I was moving from were new so no 'history' to judge activity with.
Existing HI account is used frequently to transfer to and from and to pay bills online (has been for years).
Who knows what trigggered this, I only hope it was a one-off.Herman - MP for all!0 -

At a guess ..... you were using a PC with an IP address other than the one you normally use (and which Halifax have a record of)? As that will trigger an in-situ security check. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Now come on ... there's parsimonious and there's down right mean!
I was moving some money around earlier today ... and had a choice of moving a temporarily surplus £500 out of the Reward account either today or tomorrow. As it then sits, for convenience awaiting DDs, in a standard Websaver. Out of curiousity I worked out that I lose the princely sum of (£500 @ 1.30%) £0.018 gross if I wait the one day! So I moved it!
So you're not going to lose either much sleep or Interest if you leave £100 for safety? And you need to rationalise that you would have to currently (if it's still 1.5% on the first £2500) hold £40,000 permanently in a HICA to achieve the £75 gross pa the Reward pays! (£2500 @ 1.5% = £37.50 + £37,500 @ 0.1% = £37.50)
So just view it as an essential trade-off.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Got the March bonus, followed by a letter saying I'm only allowed three RAs so they're closing this one in early May. So I don't think I'll complain about not having received the Feb bonus...
SuzeI've got three Halifax RAs and a BoS one but didn't get the bonus for the BoS one last month...
