Yesterday I called into my local branch and switched from my HICA to the £5 a month Reward CA.
It took less than a minute to do and I was told that once done,it can`t be undone.

The Halifax Reward Current Account will be available to new and existing customers from 9th February 2009. The Halifax High Interest Current Account (HICA) and Halifax Current Account will not be available to new customers from this date.
It is intended that all Halifax accounts will move to a daily overdraft charging structure like this in 2009. In the interim existing customers will continue to use their accounts as normal.

I am interested in apply for this Reward account myself but I do not want an overdraft. Will not opting for this improve my chances of being accepted?
It won't make the slightest bit of difference.
As I do not have the best credit history ( 1 satisfied default from 2006 and a few late payments on one of my credit accounts) but I do believe I have a good internal score with Halifax as everytime I go in to the branch I am asked if I would like to upgrade my account with them.
That means they don't care about your credit history, but they get bonused for selling the account. Get as many applications through as possible and if a few fail the credit score so be it will be their attitude.

I would ask them the question "am I guaranteed acceptance" before putting in any application. Their system will say "defo" or "probably" or make no comment at all.

My halifax reward account has been open. It gave me a msg saying i would be contacted in 14 days time, a few days ago when i applied online but i have now received my online username and temp pasword. Logged in, all okay. account showing as opened with £100 O/D.
So, for those who got this same 14 day msg, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
It was my first Halifax account. My only connection with Halifax b4 now which i stated on the online form so as to help my score and identity is that i have a littlewoods loan account which is done by HBOS hence technically i am an existing HBOS customer with a good record

    Cheers for the advice.

I doubt they can gurantee me acceptance so I think I'll just leave it for abit, six months or so. I was recently accepted for a CC and also have one of them creditbuilders, so hopefully after keeping up to date with payments on them I will increase my chances. I also hope the 17 searches I got on my file now wont be there too :o.

I have just upgraded my standard current account to this Reward current account. I have never had an overdraft. Should I call them and ask for an OD on this account - I don't need it and will never use it but I thought it might improve my credit rating, will it?

Do you mean get as many applications in, in branch or online? Are you saying just to keep applying and even though some get declined one may go through? Please clarify - thanks

No, he means the customer advisors will still go through the application even if they think it will decline to get some points.

I would have thought that's highly unlikely. The decision is automated, so it will look at the same criteria, and so make the same decision.

If you are declined, leave it for at least three months, then try again. In the meantime, manage any Halifax/BOS accounts you have perfectly (well, accounts elsewhere too!), and if you have a decent amount of savings with Halifax/BOS that will probably help too.
