Jen the first line sounds like me!
The 3rd part, mmmm maybe you and Haggles should get together, you could teach him some serious money saving and how to have fun but cheaply, (ps even Princess Anne has been known to use money off coupons for nights out!):T:beer:0 -

Hi haggle,
Maybe your girl is in debt too and that's why she never offers to pay? I would tell her, I would hate to think a guy was getting himself into debt for me (well ok I would be a little flattered!!) and if she runs away then stuff her. You sound like a really nice guy and deserve to be with someone who genuinely wants to be with you and not because you take her out!! I can't say I've been on many dates in my time but from what everyone else has said the cheaper dates sound way better than the fancy restaurant and those are the ones I'd remember for every.

Thanks for your response. Maybe you're right she could be in debt.
You said, "If she runs away then stuff her" but that high risk talk.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
So how's it going Haggle? Has she offered to pay for anything yet or do you not give her the opportunity? I guess it all depends on how many times you've seen her as well but I would think that after a few dates she would be making some move to pay for something or at least offering.
Do you really think she would run the other way if you asked her to pay?Light Bulb Moment 4th January 2009 :eek:Started DMP 1st April 2009 :ADMP mutual support thread member: 267 :j0 -
When i met my partner he was living with his mum and dad and was lucky if he made £100 a week, £40 to mum and dad and his job was driving so the rest of the money tended to go on that.
Some of the nicest things he has done have been on the cheap.
1) when we do go out for food, we go out mid-week, tends to be cheaper than weekends (and less busy)
2) he has got to my house before me after i've had a rubbish, hard day at work to surprise me with a glass of bubbly, pushed me up the stairs to a lovely hot bath with bubbles and lots of candles whilst he 'cooks' tea! He's pants a cooking so his cooking was putting a ready meal type of food in the oven and watching the clock - but its the thought that counts.
3) he's bought a cheap DVD(£2-3 from Asda), some popcorn and when i've got in, he's brought the duvet down to the living room in front of the fire and snuggled up all night watching film/dvd
4) I love getting cheap(ish) flowers £3-5. Shows he's though of me for no reason, and still look nice
5) When he goes to football with the lads, if he's feeling bad about leaving me when we have spent hardly anytime together, he will pop round with a trashy mag and some choc to 'keep me entertained' Sad but sweet!
These clearly worked as we live together now and after nearly 4 years, i am still as much in love with him (pass me the sick bucket lol)
p.s. i want to add, if you knew me, you would think i am a material girl, i like expensive things, but also realise that i can't have these all the time, so settle for thought!!0 -
Wow that was a great holiday. I didn't want to go and was planning a staycation but she pushed hard. We split the cost 50/50 and it was only Canary but all the food, drinks and stuff hurt.
I had a good time but know I would have had even more fun if the result was not more debt.
I'm going to have to tell her we can't do this anymore (the spending not the sex) or pull the plug.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi Haggle, just been reading your thread this afternoon, good luck telling her - and i agree with all the other posts that she should like you for you and not your money.
And if she doesnt then she's not worth it0 -
have you told her you are trying to pay things off?
i was the one in debt when i met my oh and he was ok about it. we did things like cinema and dinner one night and stayed in the next with a dvd and a bottle of wine.
when we moved in together it was much the same. we would either go out for a pub lunch and get a dvd for later on or we would go to the supermarket and get something to make a yummy tea with a bottle of wine for later.
even now we still prefer the little things. both of us would much rather stay in with a good dvd and a bottle or two of wine. when we go away we do uk breaks for a long weekend which dont cost the earth. e.g he wanted to see a comedian so i bought tickets and a hotel for his birthday. £30 for the tickets and £40 for the hotel for 2 nights. I payed for that he paid for food. and we split the booze billDebt free 3 years early :j
