You can't have too many torches! It's surprising how you dump them down somewhere and they're never where you want them when you need them! I had to smile about the stocking up. Our freezers (2) and food cupboards are brimming too but it does give a feeling of security. The b*****s out there may gamble away our savings on the stock market and in the banks, but at least they won't get at my maccaroni and lentils :rotfl:0

Morning all
Well I sat crochetting last night with my head torch on (hubby got it me free :T ):rotfl: It was strange -but I found it much more relaxing not having to have a lamp on :T
It was so comfy I forgot I had it on..until hubby asked why I was walking around the house in the dark-well I wasn't in the dark was I :rotfl: I had my own little beam of light -I even went down into the basement and forgot to put the lights on
-We have loads of "free" batteries for it -so that should save us a bit more on the electric ....
im now on day 9 of having a remoska -and haven't had to put the oven on once yet :j ... I figure that the gas im saving by not putting the oven on will compensate for the heating going on when it gets colder;) mind If my blanky that im crochetting is anything to go by -we are going to be toasty warm when its done:p
I have added a few more bits n bobs to my winter food store -its already proving money saving -No nipping out for odds n sods left, right n centre -Im half way through this month and have spent under €10im using up stuff in the freezers, fridges n cupboards;) .... the shelves in the basement are groaning under the weight of tins, pasta, flour etc  :rotfl:

They are so cute..all warm and muzzy, with huge dark eyes. Sorry, mardatha, but thats like saying you are scared of fluffy kittens!!
Have to be with Mardatha on this one, maybe its a scottish country thing. Where I spent my teenage years (out in the scottish countryside) the cows generally were cute fluffy etc, except around mating time and sorry but there's nothing scarier than a cow charging towards you because its in a bad mood (could never work out whether it was because it had or hadn't) which made walking up the road (1 mile) from the school bus a nightmare, on the constant look out for narky moos. Yes ok I can laugh about it now but at the time it wasn't funny!CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

We're like a bunch of squirrels hoarding nuts for the Winter!

Old MacDonald...cows are nosy. They crowd around you, and they HATE dogs. Their hooves are like razors and they can weigh half a ton. My son worked on a farm for a few years and the cattleman got knocked over and then rolled on --he was lucky have only broken ribs.
But saying that, spiders are MUCH MUCH SCARIER !!0 -

Let's hope things don't come to using lentils as money, can you imagine the mess when it rained
I have cupboards and freezers well stocked, though flour seems to be running low so must remedy that soon! I'm not concerned about bankers or politicians getting at my supplies, just assorted friends, who like to wander in and look in the slow cooker, the remoska, check out the cake and biscuit tins, see what sort of bread is baking and then inform me that none of them will ever starve as long as they know me! If times get harder I shall convert the dining room into a bunk house and they can all move in, now assuming none of us will have any actual money, we shall have to set up a bartering system! Wonder what talents they all have, shall have to have a think! :rotfl:
Seriously though, I do like to ensure that I have well stocked freezers and cupboards, my freezers have been stocked fairly cheaply, reduced veg and meat and assorted ready meals from leftovers.GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Well I hate to say it but I relaly wish id brought the torch id found earlier in wilkos
Got home today at about 11am from motehr in laws after tidyign round for her return tomorrow, and have found that there has been powercuts on and off all day - am glad i didnt turn my terrapins tank on as i think it oculd have blown the bulb according to neighbour we have been having one lasting five minutes every hour on the hour with every quarter hour having blips in the electric enough to turn the lights out,tvs off etc etc.
Then friend invited me out for lunch in town, went out and there was a blip in the lights as we were ordering our meals and the waitress informed us that thats been happening all day
walking down the main street after, tescos was fully shut and locked up, travel agents was shut, post office was shut, iceland was shut, job centre shut, banks shut, not a good day today then - am thankful i have a supply of candles (although this is getting low so a prioriy to restock tomorrow) but boy oh boy is my stock cupboard good - plenty of soups that can be easily reheated and if need be chicken salad or chicken sandwiches left voer form a roast dinner yesterdayTime to find me again0 -
We have 2 wind up torches in our house somewhere, i lent them to my sister when she went to leeds festival and i haven't seen them since!
At night if I want to read I've started lighting 5 tealights and 1 big candle on the ledge next to my bed, saves electric and me getting out of bed to turn the light off and try to get into bed before I get chilly!0 -
