Been having a think about this more recently, what else could I do if things get tougher?

    1) Tell 14 yo to get a grip, her "I need" are definitely "i want" (in clothes department here, how bad we are that we won't get her the designer trainers.....sorry can you tell its one of THOSE days?)
    2) Lots of walks, heat up by the exercise and that way I won't notice if its cooler in the house.
    3) (Already doing this one), stardrops instead of dishwasher tablets
    4) looking at clearing cd's onto music magpie and leaving cash in savings account as emergency
    5) eeking my haircut/colour out another week (already get it done at the college but even they're charging more for their prices)
    6) forget my treat (weekly) from canteen at work, its too much and over a year it mounts up to 50 quid!!!!!
    7) send off for even more freebies
    8) more home baking even though I'm knackered, it tastes better and I know whats going into it (and its cheaper!)
    9) finish the draught excluder I started making
    10) ......I'm sure I'll think of more!!!

  • What is Music Magpie?
  • I have just had a look at music magpie as I have never heard of it either!! Is it any good? Certainly seems like a good idea!

Edited to add...... I have just searched the forums for music magpie - makes interesting reading. Might give this a go, though I am not going to make a fortune from it, but it all helps!
If I had a pound for every...... oh sod it, if I just had a pound I'd be richer!

Another longterm lurker coming out of the closet :hello: Mumoftwo...its sounds like you're going through such a difficult time at the moment, but you're coping soo well. We went through the same situation with my dad a couple of years ago, angiograms and then the debates about angiplasty, stents or bypass. He ended up having a quadruple bypass last January and although the lead-up to it was gut wrenching, I can honestly say that its been uphill all the way. He was out of hospital in 4 days, back at work in 10 weeks and now is far fitter than me and I'm only 28. The most important thing that you can do right now is to make sure that you look after yourself because you're the one that will pull your family through it all!
I hope you didn't mind this newbie butting in.

Music magpie was mentioned in last weeks (or week before's) newsletter. You type in the barcode of your cd and they tell you how much they'll give you for it. It won't be as much as you would get if you sold it on amazon/ebay etc but it saves messing about with fees and separate lots of postage.

Mum of two- so sorry to hear of your problems. That old saying is true "it never rains it pours" (or something like that).
Sending you positive thoughts, hope things go well at the hospital.

This thread is getting mamoth now :). I have been starting to stock up for a while now, but this thread makes me want to buy extra boxes to store items in my cupboard.

Hubby situation at work is still up in the air. They were told all jobs had been deleted and they can apply to be interviewed for the "new" positions, which appear to be the same jobs with more work for the same money (but fewer positions overall). However the official letter hubby got stated you could apply for volutary severence or early retirement instead of going through the process. After 5 restructures in 4 yrs and no guaratee this structure would stand for any length of time, hubby decided enough was enough. He can get double the money contracting and there isn't any more certainty staying where he is (and alot of protracted stress). So he has applied for the VS, this would be more money than redundancy and it would have been 4 of them interviewing for 3 jobs. At least this would give us a buffer to start up his contracting carrear. Will find out by end of October if he has got it.
All a bit scary though before christmas, going to be a seriously old style christmas. All ready got some bits for me a DD1 to make christmas cards for the immediate family.
