No little ones in our house but I've always worked on the "once it's gone it's gone" theory, I buy what we need and if someone eats/drinks it all too quickly then tough, it's gone for as long as it should have lasted!

Yeah i did that for a while, but with 5 kids (now 4) it ended up the one child scoffing all the goodies and the rest not getting a look in!
I didn't think that was very fair so that d!dn't work for too long.

I will refrain from buying new diluting juice for at least a couple of days I think. Just to let them 'feel' the consequence.

    :D

DH has come home with redundancy notice letter. Thanks to this board and in particular this thread, I'm ready to cope with it. Not been spending much, got fleecy stuff in for winter, been collecting firewood and enough food in house to manage for quite a while. (Also been copying cheapy recipes from OS board but draw the line at pigs head).

Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear that.
You WILL get through it! You've got this wonderful board and you've been preparing already. You'll be ok.
You can come lean on us any time.

    *hugs*
    How's hubby taking the news?

I'd keep at it, peer pressure is a wonderful thing! I'm sure they'll deal with the culprit in an effective way...

Beccatje - hubby was a bit quiet but we have been expecting it - sofa manufacturing place. He's OK now, I think he was worried about me more than anything but I told him that was why we had been doing the "getting ready stuff" (Ever watched the penny drop?)

Thanks very much for your support.

hugs jamanda - im sure he will find something else soon and well done you on being so prepared for it. There seems to be so many redundancys lately. I have friends of mine worrying about there jobs at the minute and they are worried because some of them are struggling to get by as it is with jobs. The word has already been flitting around the firm where my boyfriend and mother work so im keepign my fingers crossed that because they have been employed there for a fair while (over a year) that they will be ok but im very worried. Ive been stockpiling things too - wish i had a wood burning stove but im in a ground floor flat - but the tins are stored away in an extra cupboard adn i have about £160 saved away which. Plus there is our tax credits and my wages (ok i only work 11 hours a week) but at least its something.
    Time to find me again

Jamanda - so sorry to hear of your DHs redundancy:( I'm sure all the planning and 'getting ready stuff' will be a big help and that you will be ok.

Urgh! with regards to the thought of breastfeeding on cows milk - brings a whole new meaning to the old Express Dairies, doesn't it?:rotfl:

Great tip about ready diluted squash being kept in the fridge, we rarely buy squash but next time I will be sure to water it down before they get their mitts on it:)

Sammy - hope all will be ok for your mum and BF. I am always impressed by your posts, you little ones are going to grow up with a very healthy attitude towards life and money.

jamanda - sorry to hear your news. Having also found ourselves in this situation in the past I know how worrying it can be. But if you pull together and make stretching the pounds your priority project while your OH looks for another job, it will become a positive thing for you to pull together. You sound as if you're in good shape for the challenge ahead. Just keep your sense of humour, even if it will be"black humour" at times. Fingers crossed for you both that a new job appears soon.

I really really don`t want to scare anyone but I have been chatting to some local farmers. Word on the street is that no-one can get their second cut silage in, some haven`t made hay and no-one has been able to get their grain in. I have never ever heard of it being so dire. Passing the time of day with a neighbour who is just back from canada, he said that the weather was like here. Canada has massive wheat fields

Talk is that food will be very very expensive by christmas. Make your own conclusions but I have been ordering a lot of flour, white will keep 12 months, wholemeal for 6 months. I have spent the whole day re-vamping my food storage under the stairs, where it is dark and cool. Blow me, I had a little windfall and I have blown all of what was left on big lock and lock boxes. Oh well
