we used to have a paper log maker, many many years ago. It wasn`t worth the money. The heat produced was very cool and there was a lot of ash0

I think, as charis says, they are good to get a fire going. They also keep the kids quiet for a while when they are making them, that can never be a bad thing0 -
Lol
Im thankful that my little boy (ok hes 4) undrstands that money is tight.
I always take him with me to the market, browsing the whoopsie section in tesco and we always look at the discounted sections in other shops.
All his baby items were donated/second hand - clothes, hats, coats, pram, moses basket, cot bed - the only thigns i had new were his bottles, steriliser(was a gift though) and his moses basket mattress.
He has second hand clothes now unless they are in the sale which is rare.
The newest thing he has was his school uniform.
he has two pairs of shoes - pair of cheapy trainers and a pair of wellies - this will become 3 once i have his school shoes though.
He does ask for toys when he see's them on the tv but if he doesnt get them he doesnt make a fuss. His happiest 'toy' is my clothes airers with a sheet hung over the top to make a play den with his teddies.
He already knows ingredients for a victoria sponge cake, pancakes and yorkshire pudding! and is an expert crispie cake maker! although he is supervised!
He can already sort washing into darks and lights! and likes helping with the washing up
lol also got to add hes a lucky littel squirt - i let him enter a raffle at a church when we went to their jumble sale, he named a snowman teddy 'evan' (its his middle name) and won it so he vists every christmas. Then let him enter a raffle in my work (coop) and the first prize was a dvd combi thing - which again he won so it is now in his bedroom but he harldy ever watches it as he enjoys playing with his little toys and me and the dog more.
I think he is on the right tracks.:DTime to find me again0 -

Pfff I'm just having a bit of a moan I guess.. after seeing DD3 (10) pour herself a glass of Ribena (well the dutch equiv.) with pure Ribena almost half way up the glass before she added a tiny bit of water...
The sugar blast is enough to knock the enamel clear off your teeth!..
I asked her why she did that.. didn't we just a few days ago discuss our financial state and asked the kids to be little bit more watchful of waste and stuff?...
She shrugged and said: "But this is just how I like it!."
After which she took two or three gulps, decided she'd had enough and tipped the rest of it down the sink!

That's what gets me!. We talk to them. Explain things, they seem to understand and agree. Yet when I"m out of the room, they just go back to whatever it is they want. They just don't think about it. Don't see the harm in a lot of things. "It's just Ribena..."
.
Blimey. If it was me it's be 16p Sainsbury's own brand orange squash next time in the trolley. With an explanation as to why...
Doesn't make her a bad kid, I was pretty much the same and plenty of others too. It's just in one ear out the other, until they have to deal with actual consequences... ones that affect them directly.0 -

That's the reason I keep a bottle of made up squash in the fridgeThey know if they don't look there first then they are in trouble
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I was gobsmacked last night ! 11yr old we're looking after went to the fridge for some milk and wouldn't touch it because it was in a glass milk bottle - there was a plastic container of milk we'd got from the supermarket just to eek out the milk that had been delivered a bit further and he quite thought he'd start on that before the bottle was empty !! Said that milk in a glass bottle makes him sick
ummmmmm............don't think thats quite right somehow........so, of he goes in a huff with a bit of door slamming ! Never did have his milk.......................

... you could therefore save money on milk by decanting it all into glass bottlesMember no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

Sounds similar to my sister. It annoys me when she makes a pint's worth of dilute juice and only drinks a mouthful or two, then pours it down the sink. Not that it's so much a moneysaving thing, but it is a reflection of her entire outlook on financial care - she just doesn't batter an eye lid....and she's 31. I find it really annoying: use what you need - simple stuff.
sammy_kaye18 you lil boy sounds adorable! I don't have kids, but if/when I ever do I will teach them such values also. Keep up the good work and real parenting - making fun, and showing love and affection in real activities as opposed to fobbing them off with bloody DVD. Good stuff!"The future needs a big kiss"0
