ITS the wireless router that worries me, I had awful probs with it to begin with and if I switch it off and cant get on again I'll go mad . But he says its pointless having a thermos for tea and hand washing etc etc --while leaving things on standby like the router. ...
Ah.....methinks I may have spotted the reason why I switch off without thinking about it - but you have problems your end....."wireless router"...that could be it. I dont have a wireless router thingie - read all about them and the associated health hazards before I bought my p.c. thankfully ('fraid I cant remember the technical details as to why - I just remember thinking "Thats a big fat no to that then"). Think I recall they are more likely to be a security hazard too - ie if you don't secure them properly someone nearby can "tap in".0 -
Our water and heating is run on oil and I have no idea how to work out costs for things as there's no meter to show how much you're using. All I know is that it's a lot more than gas!
We usually use a couple of tankfulls a year, but we're still paying for the last tank back in february so will only be able to afford one tank for the next year.
That's going to be hard for me during the winter as I feel the cold even with several layers on (my lips turn blue because I get so cold!).0 -

QUESTION FOR ALL - I live in a council flat which means - joy of joys - i have horrid steel beams over the windows in my flat so i can drill in the walls. Now I havent exactly got a fortune to spend but i do have a curtain pole to put up - ok i need the holders but my main problem is attaching them to the wall.
Does anyone know if i get come of that no more nails stuff if it will hold up?? I currently have a horrid extendable shower curtain wedged in the window with a pair of curtains on but im thinking if i can actualyl get the curtain pole up them i could effectively hang a second pair of curtains (leave the ones ont eh shower rail) and it would help insulate our room which has no heating in. Anyone have any ideas?? Yes? no?Time to find me again0 -
Lol SK, if I could stay in bed all day, I'd be fine!
No more nails might work. I think I've seen a heavy duty version of it, and my mum mentioned that my brother had used no more nails to put up some shelves, so it's worth a try.0 -
a whole roast chicken costs about 7p in the remoska
a jointed chicken in sauce about 5p in the remoska
a chicken in the slow cooker about 12p
a whole chicken in the pressure cooker on the induction hob about 5p
a jointed chicken in the pc on the induction hob with steamed veg in the basket costs about 3p
Is anyone able to work out the cost of a roast chicken in a 800w combi microwave? Instuctions are 190C + Simmer micro setting takes 13mins for each 450g.
I also use the combi regularly for a baked potato but just use the auto setting. Seems pretty hot for approx 15mins.0 -

Hi Kittie
Regarding the induction hob, is this the type of thing that you use?0 -

I expect you've tried this already sammy, but have you been in touch with the council housing maintenance officer and got them to come and have a look at it they may sort it out for you once they've seen it.They should do,it's their fault after all0 -
Mornin' Sammikaye
In my bathroom my pa first put up a strip of wood, bevelled to look nice - as a backplate for the curtain rail to be screwed to, using 'no more nails'.
So far, so good.
These 'backplates probably have a name! Anybody?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I only know the plug gets hot after a few hours, so it's using something.
All modems, including broadband, should be unplugged during a thunderstorm, even if you have a surge protection plug. In our last house we had phones burnt out due to a storm, the electricity was conducted down the phone lines. An engineer once told me he makes a lot of money after thunderstorms, replacing burnt out modems. This summer a friend who lives locally lost his Apple mac due to a storm miles away. The logic board was beyond repair and the machine was only a couple of years old. Same cause.
Our ISP told us it was best to switch the wireless router off at the wall to let it cool down overnight, so I flick it off at the mains and on again before I boot up the PC.
I agree with you about unplugging in a storm. In our last house we were hit by lightening. It hit the metal bit by the front door that took the telephone connection into the house(put there by BT).We lost our modem and our telephones as well as our house alarm. We had no phone for days.My husband was walking down stairs when it hit and the force of the lightening actually threw him down the stairs. The house shook it was realy frightening. My neighbour said the noise was so loud he expected something much worse. We were told that we were very lucky as it had hit the metal and been drawn away from the actual building. The next year the road at the bottom of our drive only 15 ft away from the same spot was hit.We decided to move after that.I'm very wary of lightening now as you can imagine.0
