Don't know how much they cost to run...but we always unplug ours....not just due to saving energy but because my DH is OBSESSIVE about unplugging things - in case they're a fire risk:rotfl: - if I asked him to do it because it would save us money - he'd say I was mad!!!!!
It doesn't affect our connection at all - once you plug it in again it all sets back again!:D20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

Do any of you ladies know how much my broadband modem costs to run ? I don't want to unplug it unless I really have to, because I'm scared it starts acting up. Are you supposed to leave them on or off ?
All modems, including broadband, should be unplugged during a thunderstorm, even if you have a surge protection plug. In our last house we had phones burnt out due to a storm, the electricity was conducted down the phone lines. An engineer once told me he makes a lot of money after thunderstorms, replacing burnt out modems. This summer a friend who lives locally lost his Apple mac due to a storm miles away. The logic board was beyond repair and the machine was only a couple of years old. Same cause.
Our ISP told us it was best to switch the wireless router off at the wall to let it cool down overnight, so I flick it off at the mains and on again before I boot up the PC.0 -
ITS the wireless router that worries me, I had awful probs with it to begin with and if I switch it off and cant get on again I'll go mad . But he says its pointless having a thermos for tea and hand washing etc etc --while leaving things on standby like the router. ...0

All my PC stuff goes though a 'powersaver' strip - but once it's shut down I switch it off at the socket, and have done for months, without any probs.
Leccy costs too much!
Incidentally I also switch off all the TV stuff at the mains, too!
Kids create because Sky (Freeview actually, cancelled subscription) takes a while to warm up but I can remember having to wait for TVs to warm up in the 60s so have NO SYMPATHY they need to learn some patience!
And that things switched on cost - and it's money down the drain!
Best thing is slowly - but surely - they ARE getting the message! When they switch microwave to run it fot 2 mins to heat up milk for breakfast they switch it off again. Interesting figures for other appliances etc.
I was shocked at the price of cooking a chicken :eek:0 -
a whole roast chicken costs about 7p in the remoska
a jointed chicken in sauce about 5p in the remoska
a chicken in the slow cooker about 12p
a whole chicken in the pressure cooker on the induction hob about 5p
a jointed chicken in the pc on the induction hob with steamed veg in the basket costs about 3p0 -

So - about £1.40 per week for having a bath - not about £7. Still glad I use an electric shower (non power shower).0 -

Dont quite know why this would be - I switch mine of at the socket after each computer session - and dont have any problems.0
