Hi, I am new to forums but have enjoyed reading all your posts. I was wondering if someone could tell me if fibromyalgia and polymyalgia are the same thing. My Doctor has diagnosed me with polymyalgia but it sounds like I have similar problems to the rest of you. Many thanks.

Hi tiggersue, welcome to the forums :)

To answer your question, no, polymyalgia and fibromyalgia are not the same thing. Polymyalgia is rheumatic and can be treated effectively with steroids; fibromyalgia isn't (it's neuropathic, from what most of the studies seem to say), and can't be treated that way with good results most of the time.

Thank you for the welcome and the quick answer, I was just looking it up and have found some info on polymyalgia and can see what you are saying. The doc offered me steroids but I have been desparately trying to lose weight and have lost nearly 4 stone and he thought the steroids wouldn't help. He wants to treat me homeopathically but I have so much pain and immobility I am not so sure!!!

    Hi guys

I wasn't around yesterday or today cos I was out doing the wedding dress shopping thing with mother and my folks drove me CRAZY! Then today OH's aunt and mum came over to see the house and although I came on to catch up I've now promptly forgotten everything I was going to comment on!

I can confirm though, that I now have a wedding dress ordered! It's the one I gave you guys a link to :) The detailing will be done to match the colouring of the bridesmaids dresses (or as close as possible).

RE: wedding website, I've PM'd you Kass and I'll email you Unity. For now though I best toddle off to bed...

    Catch you tomorrow maybe :)

  • Auntie Axe - I'm sure I've asked this before, but can't you do a grocery shop over the 'net? I know it means waiting a couple of days for a delivery, but at least you could get in a little of what you fancy?

Sorry 'bout the post and run, but I'm still feeling rough (turning mattresses is not to be recommended - it results in a variety of pulled muscles which makes sitting up and/or typing painful).

    Hee, thanks guys! :)

I try to get a word in with him and he is adamant that he is always right - no matter what

I have asked him about CFS before as I have always suffered with excessive and dehbilitating fatigue, joint pain, no energy/motivation etc for blinking ages - and again, that's also 'all in the mind' and an umbrella for symptoms that coincidently stick together and there's usually a lot of other reasons for it and he'd rather not just lump me in with no real diagnosis

Also should have said - the blood tests were all normal and all he's doing now is refering me to a counsellor and getting me to chat to the nurse.

All being well but I have no medication or further help - I hurt. I need help and he's not giving it :(

Hi Tiggersue welcome to our group, not everyone here has Fibro, but we all have similar problems, so you are welcome to join in. I saw a Homeopath a few years ago, she sorted out some of my problems but not the pain and fatigue, but everyones different and it wont hurt to try it, if it doesn't work then maybe try the steriods then. My Nan had Polymyalgia and recovered really quickly one she started taking the steriods, she gradually lowered the dose and is fine now.

BZ it must be such a relief that you've ordered the dress now, thats another thing you can tick off the list, whats next ? I hope all the family have left you in peace now and you can have a rest.

DH took me and the scooter to Brighton this morning, I whizzed round all the shops and treated myself to a few new clothes, it was great, all the shops I went in were big and I got round easily, it was just the thing to cheer me up. On the drive home my hip pain started up, it had been niggling all morning, its not as bad as the other day though thank goodness, but Im a bit nervous about using the laptop as I keep getting big muscle twitches in my right leg which are making it jump around all over the place.
I hope everyones having a lovely Sunday.

  • s/e sorry to hear you're still feeling rough. I have hugs to spare and will be gentle. I had thought about an internet order for food, but would struggle to get it up to minimum spend.

bz well done on getting the dress ordered and getting rid of the old folks. You've got most of the big things ticked off now - just the little details to go if you can see them over the dazzle of your blinging ring.

I finally made a short trip round Tescos and got in bits and pieces that can be made to resemble food without any effort. and on the plus side, I don't think I have a chest infection, I think I may have just pulled something from coughing.
Hope you're all having a decent Sunday. I woke up to a lovely rainbow here. Ahhh, childish pleasure.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D
