Hi to everyone I'm very new to this so please bear with me. I have had Fibro for 20 years now, up until 3 years ago I was still able to go to work but then the fibro got the better of me (nearly all of the trigger points doc said) and sadly I had to give work up. Consequently I had to go through a very long medical at the local job centre to determine whether or not I could have any benefits. Like most people with Fibro I have good days and bad days, a bad one being having to stay in bed for half an hour after I've woken to get my back, arms & legs working so that I can get up. Does anyone else have these problems. I also take quite a lot of meds to make life a bit eaier doc said said meds being Anti Depressants; Gabapentin & DF118. Does anyone else take this cocktail of meds? I would also like to know if anyone can tell me why Fibro is a registered disability in USA but not here. Really sorry if I've waffled on.

welcome moonminda-you sound like you are an ideal candidate to join us sadly!I think not only myself but others will follow and confirm both similar symptoms and drug regimes-although we cant give in depth details on the threads as we cant be seEn as giving medical advice.
Feel free to ask and waffle rant -we all do it at some point.you will find support in abundance here.
And dont get us started on benefits and having to fight tooth and nail for recognition that we are bl**dy ill!
    hope to speak again

Hi all, I just thought Id let you know some good news from me for a change. Dd took me to see Dad today, as he's in a hospital thats over an hours drive away so I havn't seen him for 3 weeks, he's lost over 2 stone which was quite a shock, but the doctor came round while we were there and said he should be going home on Friday :j

Sorry I did mean to reply to a few posts, but oh's just come in and by the time Id told him about my day I'd forgotten what I was going to write, I hope everyones ok.

update-got call finally-Having CT scan tuesday to see if tumour in lungs grown/changed shape-so they can either do safe biopsy -as currently described as too complex/dangerous position. Also scan may show changes that will help them decide if its new primary or a secondary.Surgeon at ANOTHER hospital has agreed in principle if safe to do will then attempt biopsy via another broncoscopy but under general this time which l will be easier to cope with.
so tues scan then thurs morning get discussed at big meeting by big wigs via video links to several hosps then get to see oncologist for verdict-thats if there is one!!!!feeling better now some plan-had a blo**y good sob-took valium and now trying to keep smiling.Am helped by large box Tolberone tinys!!
Am only on 4mgs steroids but since yesterday got terrible hunger and am hoovering up rubbish!!!!Couldnt sleep last night and at 4am nearly got up for toast-was dribbling almost but resisted!!!!!!
Have photographed quilt and am now going to try to remember how to post it.

Hi many thanks for the kind welcome, I have also read about you going for a CT scan I really do wish you all the best. I wasn't sure whether or not to include my other illness in this thread but here goes. I came out of hospital 2 weeks ago after having yet another op for a gynea cancer that I've been fighting for the past 12 years. I count myself very lucky as I have a brill doc at the hospital and my own GP is fab as well (even with the Fibro!) All the very best for Tues x.
  • Hi Moominda. I'll reply properly when brain is back in gear - hopefully tomorrow, but welcome anyway!

Sharon All so complicated. Hope things get mocing fast so you can put this part behind you. The hunger with steroids is like no other isn't it. Comes on fast and is real gnawing pain. I find yoghurt and smoothies help when the munchies get too much. Hugs to you.

sue really good new about your Dad coming home and it must have been lovely to see him. Hope he manages to put a little weight on.

Who hid my glasses? I can only find my reading ones. Fess up now you rotten boogers.
Also, I am being driven absolutely demented with slugs attacking all my plants. I've used nematodes, egg shells, shale etc as I hate the idea of using anything chemical. I'm getting so crackers at them, I'm telling them off and swearing at them *g*
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

    morning all

moominda welcome. like the others have said, join in and rant or chat away with us. ask any questions you have, someone will answer. if something gets missed ask again because we chat about everything under the sun tbh. other illnesses are welcome too, some of us dont have fibro but stayed put when we butted in so will leave specific things to other more knowledgeable members to answer. support is to be found here by bucket loads no matter what the problem.

sharon good luck with the scan on tuesday, and the meeting on thursday. fingers crossed for the best outcome. im relieved for you that you now have a plan of action again, i can only imagine how relieved you must feel. the photo..if you upload it to photobucket it will give you a choice of sharing options, with codes that can be copied to either insert the picture or link to the picture so we can all see it :) if you get stuck shout and ill try and help, or someone else can explain better than me.

cwta wasnt me stole them i promise. did you find them yet? and thank you, tenderhooks describes it very well actually, but until this year its been me being dramatic and expecting it with no real reason except that she is so old.

lw thank you too, yep that was the unspoken meaning. tbf m mum never had pet pets before we got cats, she grew up on a farm and animals were strictly outside things, and she is worried about the cost of the vet bills. she did surprise me by backing down immediately.

Sharon - Jeez, you mean they'd do a broncoscopy without general anaesthetic  Woman you are so bloody brave - I certainly couldn't tolerate that, maybe it's the phobia of choking/drowning but no way .

Suep - Great news about your dad :T, hope his appetite picks up once he gets out tomorrow.

Moominda - Welcome to this merry clan :D. What is DF118? I've never heard of it - unless it has another name.

CWTA - Twasn't me who nicked your specs - honest :p.

PCL - Thanks for that link about the govt. trying to stop DLA - I have joined the list and signed the petition.

Great news! :j Following my nice :D phonecall to the pain clinic doc's secretary I got a cancellation for the facet joint injections/transforaminal epidural - so I go in on 27th August :T. Just goes to show, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar as the old saying goes :rotfl:. Tho' why you'd want a load of flies is another matter :cheesy:. We are so lucky to have the NHS - it's only when you live in a country that doesn't that you really appreciate it.

Funny really, as when the phonecall came, I was just in the process of looking for a last minute holiday for that week :( as DS will have finished his placement and be able to cat-sit. Any later and he will be having his cruciate ligament re-built. However I'd rather have less pain than a holiday ;), even though somewhere warm and dry might have also helped my joints.

I got my new second hearing aid on Tuesday and it's working well - apart from difficulties with answering the phone:o. I saw my GP and my Thyroxine dosage has been tweaked and he has done the referral to a rheumatologist in Newcastle who came highly recommended.

    'Ello all. *waves feebly*.

Moominda welcome. I'm one of the ones pcl mentioned who butted in and just stayed. I've actually got lupus, but the nice people here have let me remain anyway.:D

Suep great news about your dad coming home. I bet he can't wait!

Sharon a plan of campaign always helps, doesn't it? Best of luck for Tuesday; let us know how it goes as soon as you feel up to posting.

CwtA I have enough trouble keeping track of my own 2 pairs of specs, so I haven't taken yours. I asked Molly, and she says she hasn't seen them either.:D I had to laugh at the idea of you swearing at the slugs. Did they take any notice?:D

Unity I agree, a reduction in pain beats a holiday every time! I'm not entirely sure what the procedure you're having entails, (Hel, I can't even pronounce it! LOL) but I hope it does you a whole heap of good. Remind us nearer the time so I can direct some good vibes your way on the day.

Pcl I've also signed up to the website you kindly gave us the link to. Honestly, they want to take away IB, now DLA - what are we supposed to live on - fresh air? (sorry, going into rant mode there).

Well, my left knee is still painful, purple, and a tad swollen, but I think it'll be ok. I'm just glad nobody saw me do it - must've been SOOOO undignified!
Molly's half-way through her stay with us (where does the time go?); I just hope her own humans are enjoying their holiday! I think they've gone "oop North" somewhere. I ought to be getting on woth some housework, but frankly I cba today. It's far too warm (sorry Unity) and anyway, Molly's sitting on my foot. Yeah, I know, feeble excuse.:D
I assume BZ's not posting at the mo cos she's up to her ears with the wedding preparations.
