sue, I am so pleased that you have got that scooter - how wonderful to be able to get out with the dog on your own. Must be a new lease of life for you. I've read all the Stephanie Myers books - they're not challenging, but are enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing the film. I'm not sure if I've still got the other ones in the series, but if I find them, I'll quite happily send them to you if you want to read them.
Raeh, you are totally letting the side down. You ALWAYS need a new handbag. You're such a lightweight *grin*.
s/e nice to see you back on the thread again. I'll only think about moving back to SE when the inevitable happens to Dad. And you needn't think we're losing contact now - you don't get rid of me that easily *grin*
I started the ball rolling with gently telling Raeh off, and if we keep up the impetus ..... lol
sharon, sweetheart - looking forward to seeing you back and hope that you're comfortable and will take things as easy as you need to.
Dad's wife goes to Thailand tomorrow, so I am then tasked with looking after him and trying to stop him drinking himself to death or at least keep him safe if he's gonna drink. I am dreading it.
Plus, he even said to me yesterday "you can help me by digging over the raised beds" What bit about me being unwell does he not get??!
Thank gawd Sis is coming down at the weekend to give me a bit of a break. I'll either end up killing myself or him otherwise - bleedin family.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

You Did not cause it.
You Cannot control it.
You Cannot cure it.
I'm afraid that if your father decides to drink himself to death - that is his choice. Uncomfortable as that may read, it is sadly true.
There is also the thing of 'withdrawing with love' - it's not your responsibility to keep your father safe. It's not your responsibility to protect your father from the consequences of his actions. If you do, then you are enabling your father to continue to drink to excess without experiencing the fall out from it.

Thank you s/e. I know you understand and I appreciate your support. It's just hard when he's done everything in his power to help and support me over the years and I feel that this is a time of role reversal, when I have to look out for him for our sake - so that he's still around iykwim.
Intellectually, I completely understand and recognise the correct thing to do is as you say, but emotionally, it's not that easy, of course. I'll keep those words in mind though. Thank you.
Looking forward to hearing from Sharon.
Just a mini whinge, I joined the NHS Consultative Commitee about 18 months ago in the hope of being able to positively influence things and so far, the only things that have been brought to the tabe are choosing the different voices and tones for the electronic messages you get when you call them. Sheesh.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0
