  • I have successfully reclaimed in excess of £10,000 from Halifax for PPI on a credit card. On the same day the money was paid into my account they reduced my credit card limit by virtually the same amount, without prior notice. I became aware of it when they telephoned me to ask me to me a payment as I was over my credit card limit. This smacks of revenge and sharp practice. Has this happened to anyone else and what can be done about it?

    Hello there

so you have not received anything in writing about this?

If you haven't then write to them and question them on this, then if your not happy with the way they have dealt with this, complain to them, if they do not resolve this in your favour or your still not happy, take it to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS).

Hopefully someone will post up about their experience shortly, all the best.

/sounds very much like sharp practice to me - give it with one hand and snatch it back with another !! If you've been financially disadvantaged by this then you need to make a complaint to Lloyds Group (previously HBOS) and if you're not satisfied with the response then you can make a complaint to the Ombudsman
  • Thank you tiggrae and di - I do intend to pursue this because I have now been financially disadvantaged by Halifax's sharp practice/

    Hi all

After First Plus sucess their had to be a failure, albeit temporary I hope.

This is a broken down version of MBNA's response to my PPI claim-

mbna became the service provider of my account in june 2005 and when the account was converted hbos informed them ppi was active. I was told I had the chance to cancel 30 days after. news to me this as the card has always been with mbna never hbos

However mbna we have always aimed to ensure appropriate sales practices are followed at all times. as a gesture of goodwill I have arranged for an immediate refund of the premiums and interest charged to your account. a credit of £252.76 will be shown on your next statement. as your account was previously administered by hbos please contact them directly for assistance. at this point their is no breakdown of the refund, I understand that I should be refunded directly and again hbos were never part of the original agreement

This is our final repsonse and you now have the chance to go to the fos if unhappy. I regret that we will not enter further correspondence regarding this matter unless instructed to do so by the fos.

Hopefully by reading the above you get the picture. Okay what do I do now?
I believe I still need to give them the option of responding say within 14 days to clarify the facts, namely no involvement with hbos, the schedule of the refunds, thr refund procedure and that i will go to the fos.
I believe this is a direct response in the hope i will go away. At this point do I ring them ?
Please any advice here would be welcome. Have others had similar letters and how have you or did you progress this?

    Please:confused:

    Hi Putty, hope your well.

A standard response, besides many used to think that PPI was all part of the card, where if cancelled it was thought the whole thing would have to be cancelled etc.

If this account is clear of arrears, then yes you do have the right to request this to be refunded direct to you. and again you do have the right to see a full detailed written breakdown.

This is our final repsonse and you now have the chance to go to the fos if unhappy. I regret that we will not enter further correspondence regarding this matter unless instructed to do so by the fos.
I would be inclined to write back, despite this being the final response, and tell them, your not happy with the decision, and request that they refund this directly to you, give them about 14 days, and if you hear nothing, move on to the FOS.

Hopefully by reading the above you get the picture. Okay what do I do now?

I agree with you Putty, as you said here, and give them 14 days, however, I would not ring them, I would put it in writing, and keep a copy for evidence in case you do want to move on to the FOS, post by recorded delivery as well, this way you will know when they have received your letter, and count 14 days from when they have actually received it.
    Please:confused:
You can also see what others may have to say on this as well if you want to.
Wishing you luck hun, please keep us posted.;)
