  • just received a settlement. looks like I had ppi's on 3 loans but I cancelled them early on in the agreement. works out about £850. Now do I take it seeing as I have no idea when I cancelled the PPI and what do i do about tax etc. Took a total of 7 weeks.

I SAID ....the reason Barclays are inundated with complaints is they sold fraudulent policies called PPI or in your case OD Protection

YOU SAID ... PPI is NOT inherently wrong. It can be missold. They are undoubtedly inundated with complaints - but ironically it is a lot of those complaints that are fraudulent. As an example, I was talking to a broker yesterday who has received a complaint about the sale of a PPI policy which never existed.

MAGPIE, you may have more stars than me on this forum but I have been thinking about your comments today. The problem is that myself and mostly everyone on this forum are the poor suckers that have been ripped off big time by the financial institutions from banks to insurance companies, to brokers (financial advisors), to claims companies ?

Your profile says "I run a consultancy to help Independent Financial Advisers to comply with their rules and resolve complaints. Although I am qualified to, I don't advise consumers for reward."

The problem I have with this, is that you are bias to your own industry.
To say that some complaints are fraudulent may or may not be right but suffice to say many people did not know that a fraudulent insurance policy was added without their knowledge, it would be the right thing to do to query this if they do not know. There is simply no point in claiming for something you never had in the first place.
We all know that banks, financial advisors, insurance companies, agents made/make very handsome commission for selling such policies

You said "PPI is NOT inherently wrong"
Of course you are right if and only if, it was legitimate and it did what it said. The whole problem here as the FOS will tell you, the reason there are 10's of thousands of current claims is that the policies were not legitimate because they are fraudulent ? MIS-SOLD
  • Well, I have an update over my complaint to the FOS over my 4 year wait.....

Received a letter today stating my complaints were valid and changes were being implemented, and yes, the FOS had let me down. My case is now with an ombudsman and hopefully will be resolved within 1 month.

Oh and the FOS sent me a nice cheque to compensate me for being messed around! (Very surprising and I'll certainly accept it!)

So, hopefully only a month now...

You could go down the SAR route but first go to each one and if you can answer NO to the following, you will no doubt win

*Did YOUR BANK explain the full cost of the PPI when you took out the loan?
*Did you specifically ask YOUR BANK for PPI?
*Did YOUR BANK make clear that PPI was optional?
*Did YOUR BANK ask you about your medical history?
*Did YOUR BANK ask you about any existing payment cover?
*Did you know that YOUR BANK added a PPI policy to your loan?
*Do you think YOUR BANK treated you fairly?
*Did YOUR BANK ask if you have any existing medical conditions?
*Did YOUR BANK ask if you were entitled to sick pay from your employer?
*Did YOUR BANK add the PPI without your permission

If you answered no to any one of the above you could be owed thousands of pounds

Thanks Beamerguy....to be honest, if I claim successfully, it will be one of the biggest (if not the biggest) so far! Wish me luck :o:eek::(

  • Hi I posted on he a while back.put 2 complaints in against black horse.was told by the ombudsman that as it was before 2005 it was the underwriters genworth who was responsible.so they forwarded a complaint on to them for me who have refused responsibility.so now the 8 weeks are up am now going to send both forms to the ombudsman.know it could take a while but am in no hurry as I know I was mis sold and it was a front uploaded ppi.(or least I think it was.£685 was added onto the start of each loan)time will tell.

Also does anyone know what address to send complaint to HSBC I had 2 loans with them back in 98 and 2000.only bank I've banked with so worth a try as know they were front loaded too.no paperwork though.

Got one going through Dorothy Perkins card.im sure I read with someone ask who the bank was.its Santander

Was I correct in thinking I read you can still claim back bank charges.i don't have any but my husband had loads in about 2006-2007 before I moved in with him.£25-£30 a time thanks for your help

Hi ian just generalising really, the banks are taking on this "who me" stance now there all getting the same.
  • After months of thinking about it I finally complained to Lloyds about my loan PPI at the end of September.

I had my final letter from them at the beginning of December agreeing I had been misold my PPI and giving me my offer. In the letter they said not to do anything if I wanted to accept the offer and to only write back if I wanted to appeal. I sat tight and expected the money to go into my account on or shortly after December 27th (as that's when they worked out my 8% interest up until)...I'm now still waiting for my money!

Is it supposed to take this long?

I've phoned the Lloyds PPI complaint line again and just got told they know nothing about when the money gets transferred.

Does anyone know if this is a normal wait or if Lloyds should have paid me by now?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
