Dont use a claims company, you can do just the same and save at least 20-25% on their fees. Everything you need to know is here for you
  • Hi all
Is the fact that ppi was sold as a single premium at the start of a loan with interest added enough of a reason to claim mis sold ? if so can someone explain why ?
    thanks

Can anyone help with this one, We have put in, to reclaim my PPI charges against HSBC bank, who i have been with for numerous years now. Well today i got a letter back from them saying that as the account was closed in 2003 for the Cardholder Repayment Protector, they are uphelding complaint as after six years records are distroyed. But this account is not the one i am complaining about, it was a different account i opened up in 2006. It also goes on to say final response to Personal Loan Protection Plan in due course.
I am totally lost, as firstly i am complaining about, my account that is within the 6 years, and secondly i have not had a loan with this company to have PLPP out. I am complaining about my most resent account with them.
I dont no if they are trying to fob me off or what, and before you ask, i have not kept any records of my account from 2003.

    Hi bigmac99p,
Yes front loaded single premium PPI is a very strong reason, it is basically a loan within a loan and you will have paid APR on the whole amount from the start. The FOS frown on this type of PPI and it has been unavailable since April this year I believe. It was quite often sold on the basis that it would cover you for only 5 years. If your loan was for a longer period the insurance would have finished but you would have carried on paying for it until the end of the loan. It also had so many cop out clauses that it was almost impossible to claim on it. If you had upfront PPI COMPLAIN it is the most upheld reason ;)

Hi BIGMAC, Dilus is 100% right, it is front loaded and the FSA ans FOS REALLY FROWN BADLY ON IT

I would tell the bank that is "front loaded" and that if they dont accept it, the FOS will, so better settle with me to save further blackmarks against you
  • Hi,
I am thinking claiming for PPI.

I have had 2 loans from Citi Financial in he past but i am not sure if this company is still around.

Also i have had a loan and CC from Halifax

Hi Claire, NO NEED to be nervous, we are here to help.

Firstly, explain fully to us about this, do you have PPI's with Hailfax and Santander, did you agree to them, was everything explained etc etc

    Hi Claire,
Don't be nervous about complaining ;)
Firstly do you have paperwork for any or all of the loans/credit cards you mention. If not you may need to SAR the companies in question to get all your details (account numbers etc) A SAR costs £10 for each institution and they have 40 days to comply.
If you have account numbers that is all you need and obviously a valid reason to complain.

Take a look at this page
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

Citi Financial are now called One Main Financial and it will probably depend on how long ago these two loans were taken out as they only have to keep records for 6 years
The others sound more recent and you shouldn't have a problem provided they were within the last 6 - 10 years
See what you have in the way of paperwork, decide if you were mis sold PPI and why, then come back and ask for any advice you need. It is very straightforward putting in a complaint so long as you have a reason to. Do NOT be tempted to use a claims company, they will keep at least 20% of any redress for doing no more than you can do yourself ;)
