  • Hi all newbie here, need some advice on PPI please, I have received a letter out of the blue from NRAM about a PPI policy I was sold with a loan basically asking if I want to review the policy, a response form was enclosed with the letter. The loan is paid up in June 2012 and began in July 2007 but I'm sure I'd already had a Northern Rock loan which I consolidated with the current loan. How should I proceed? should I use the NRAM form or the template on here? or both? I have no paperwork for the previous consolidated loan which started about 2004. Any advice would be fantastic, thanks all.

    Hi and welcome.

If you still have the accounts numbers that is fine, many on here have been successful with the minimum or no paperwork.

Its up to you, but the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) issued complaint forms to send to businesses to make a reclaim, there is no longer any letter templates on this site, because of it being replaced by the reclaim questionnaire, if you keep copies of what you send, and need to complain to the FOS later on, you just send the FOS a copy then, it saves time later on, but hopefully you will not have to go as far as the FOS.

However, if you want to write a cover letter that is an option, but the questionnaire is sufficient.

Reclaim Questionnaire below, step 3, good luck.

Its possible its the same form questionnaire as you already received.:)

  • Hi Di, thankyou for your advice,

the form from NRAM is different from the FOS one so I think I will return both. I have been reading through all the paperwork I have and the one issue that stands out is I wasn't asked for details of existing insurance policies that would be sufficient cover for the loan, is this enough for a successful claim?

    Many thanks again

    Hi and your welcome.

Yes if that reason applies to you, then do write that in your complaint.
I would also check for any other reasons that may apply to you, in case you miss anything, more details below.

This is just in case.;) Good luck.

  • Morning

I sent off a SAR to Barclays Bank months ago including my £10 cheque. I received information regarding current credit cards I have with them, but never received any information of on two MASTERLOANS that I had dated back to 1996. I have both of the full loan numbers, the amount I was paying each month, and I also sent a copy of a bank statement showing this information and proving that the loans did exist. Barclays have never mentioned these two loans and I have been chasing them now since June for this information.

Today I have received a letter back from them (following my chase again last week) addressed to me but the salutation is to a Mr. Allen (????) stating they are unable to locate either of the masterloans taken out due to the age of the loans. Now I realise this is a long time ago, but can they honestly tell me that they do not have details of these loans in their archive records? When I spoke to the FOS last week regarding Tescos admitting to having details of a credit card, but unless I can prove what I paid in PPI they could only refund me, what I could prove to them. The FOS felt this very dubious of Tescos, as they said they would definately hold this information, and would chase me if they found that I owed them money, and wanted to chase Tescos on my behalf, so to me this is similar.

I believe that Barclays Bank, can't be bothered, are hoping that I will just go away, but I have sent them a SAR and paid for all the information that the hold on me. I don't know if I had PPI on these two loans, this is what I want to find out!

Can someone please help me with what I should be doing now in this instance. What is the name of the organisation I should be quoting in relation to Data Protection, and Barclays sending me thorough information? Or because of the age, they are correct in what they are saying. Personnally, I just think they are hoping I will give up the chase.

Hi bev the organisation you need to quote them is the ico independent commissioners office these are responsible for all violations of the data protection act 1998, you are right to be suspicious of the banks motives as you know i have had a long running saga with LTSB 6 months in fact and they told me i had no ppi on anything it's taken me all this time but at last i'm getting somewhere they've now upheld 2 loans not bad for someone who hasn't got ppi, what a load of nonsense.

Thank you Cappo for your reply. Have had a look at the ICO website and there is no timescale mentioned regarding how far back banks have to go, unless I am missing it? You you know of a timescale?? Bev
  • Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could help me with the tax to pay on interest received.

I wrote to the tax office informing them of the amount I have received in interest and asked if I needed to pay anything etc.

I have received a letter back today saying I have a new tax code but I'm not 100% sure I understand it so just wondered if someone could clarify it for me. This is their reply below:

You new tax code for the year 6 April 2011 to 5 April 2012 is 698L which replaces 747L.

Here is how it is worked out:
    Your personal allowance: £7475
interest without tax taken off (gross interest): £487
a tax free amount of: £6988

If we have this wrong or if your circumstances have changed and you think it could affect the tax you pay, please tell us.

I'm presuming that they have lowered the amount taking off what I have earned in interest from the back which is what is above, however I'm also presuming this is based on what I used to earn and as I am on maternity now and only have one more maternity payment left before I no longer receive anything should this be different?

Hope someone can advise, many thanks :)

banks officially have to go back 6 years bev but many banks are paying out on claims from much further back than this, the two that LTSB have now upheld for me are from 1995 and 1997 respectively i would push this as i'm sure this is a smokescreen, i'm now having this with HSBC on a mppi there telling me that they only need to go back 6 years i've responded telling them that as the mortgage is still live they can go back to the year dot, i'd give the fos another call and see where you stand on this.
