thanks Cappo
i will keep pushing and write to them again but did get another letter today from Barclaycard, all it contained was a copy of the current terms and conditions. Nothing on it (date) to show it was the terms and conditions I agreed to when I took the card out and definately nothing about any PPI.
will keep you all updated on what happens next.0 -
Hi there, did you send it to the address i gave previous?.
Try this one and put to customer services.
Santander UK PLC
PO Box 1125
BRADFORD
BD1 9PG
Or better still, ring and ask where you send it to.
08459 724 724
Thanks, that is the address I sent it to, have been told when I rang today to send it to Milton Keynes??
Also can anyone PLEASE help me regarding this.
I bought a computer following an ad in a Sunday magazine in Nov 2001 from Time Computers on a finance agreement from First National Bank. It was 48 payments of £42.42 per month. From memory the actual computer cost £899, the rest was insurance which i was told was compulsory, am quite sure it was PPI. Unfortuately a couple of months ago I was having a clear out and the agreement went into the bin. Looking at old bank statements I can see the DD going out each month.
My bank is now owned by a Danish bank and they are trying to source info on this but this is taking an etenity. I was told that First National Bank was now owned by Santander but after speaking to NINE different people in different depts this wouldn't seem to be the case. I did email them a complaint but have had no response.
The agreement was on my credit file and I disputed it with Equifax thinking they would send me details, unfortunately the entry was deleted ~(I am quite sure by Santander). So all I have is the dates, and the last 4 digits of the agreement.
I spoke to a helpful man at the FOS today to try and find out who I should be complaining to, but he is at a loss.
I have written to Time Computers on the remote possibility they would have some records but I am sure this is highly unlikely.
One of the folk at Santander thought it might be GE Money, so I have sent them a letter of complaint.
Anyone any suggestions as to how I find out who First National Bank was taken over by. I did speak to several people in different depts but they all seemed to think it was Santander.
I feel I am banging my head up against a brick wall, I do apologise for such a long winded post0 -
Di,
I got a letter through from Lloyds today, my PPI claim was settled in my favour and I also got interest for the money
Do you have any info on how much I should be expecting to have to pay in tax? Do I also just have to pay tax on the interest? I hope not on the refund of the premium as well as the excess balance and interest!
I can just see this being fun down the local tax office as my PPI claim covered 6 different loans with lloyds over a span of 10 years, so would any tax free savings allowance be taken into account over that time frame too? These were cascaded loans that paid off each other in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2007. My offer given to me is just shy of £20k, £10k of that in premiums, the rest in interest and excess balance with interest.
Cheers,
S
Hiya
Well done on your success!
This issue confuses me to be honest in regards of the tax, I assumed any tax would have been sorted before the payout, or it depends on the full amount, think amersall posted something about this one before, it's similar to earnings income i think but I could be wrong.
Hopefully amersall or someone will know more of this and post up shortly.
Good luck and well done!:beer:The one and only "Dizzy Di"

If the interest is paid gross then their is a tax liability. If you are working and earning over the personal tax threshold then tax will be paid at 20 % on the interest element only.If you pay higher rate or super tax then there is a further liability. The bank will declare the interest paid to the tax office who in turn will bill you for it at some point. You should complete it on next years tax return.
Me I would find out if the interest was paid gross first. If so stick a couple of grand away to pay the revenue.

First National Bank was owned by Abbey National originally.
It disposed of First National in 2003, which was taken over by (GE - General Electric), so most likely GE Money now :money:

Yes, as I thought. Now GE Money

GE Money in the UK
In the UK, GE Money Home Lending (GEMHL) is a leading financial services provider. In 2001 we acquired igroup and in 2003 we acquired First National. Both brands are now trading styles of GE Money Home Lending Limited. We sell our products via a nationwide network of intermediaries and have a strong track record in developing financial products that meet the needs of customers.
I'd send the complaint letter to GE money and see what happens.

You dont need a covering letter if all the info is on the letter you are sending,if there is more you want to add, then you can but the letter will suffice.lisajaynec wrote: »Hi
