Did you advise the Halifax of your condition at the time of taking out the card?
Thanks for the reply. No I didn't tell them. I would have done if they had asked me-I know that sounds like the usual cop out but I really didn't think to say anything! I was in the process of separating from my husband, which I told the woman from the Halifax; she then came across as my best friend. Can't believe I was taken in by it.
I will send off the first letter then and see how it goes. Nothing ventured and all that.
Many thanks for your help.Pay off all your debts by Christmas 2025 no. 15 £0/69490 -
I'm currently in the process of trying to figure out whether me or my partner have valid PPI claims. I've looked through the site and there is so much good information but I'm a little confused if I have a valid claim.
There are three situations that I think could be relevant:
First is a HSBC Credit Card that I still have but when I first purchased in 2002, PPI was added on. I'll be hoenst I don't remember what I was told about it. It was my first credit card and I'd only lived in the UK for 1 year so had never even had an overdraft before. About a year ago when I was really trying to get my finances under control I noticed this extra charge a month, queried it and cancelled. Would I have a relevant claim for this? I've still got the card but I've recently paid off the balance but haven't cancel it yet, plan to do so though.
Second is a Royal Bank of Scotland loan that I had. This also had payment protection insurance on it but I once had tried to claim as I had been made redundant but found I was not covered. I thought I was. Probably my own silly fault for not making sure that this was covered but they also told me that because the job I was in had only started 3 months previously I wouldn't be covered anyways. I have recently consolidated my debts and settled this loan but my new loan is also with RBS however does not have PPI. Would I be able to claim for this?
Thirdly, my partner has a Halifax loan at the minute and we've realised that he is paying a huge amount on PPI. He didn't realise this was an option, and is pretty sure that the agent either told him it was necessary for him to take it out to have the loan accepted or at least didn't give him an option. I have told him to speak to them about cancelling it and see if they allow him. If they do that's great because he'll save. But whether they do or not would he have a valid claim?
Sorry that's a huge post! But that's why I'm so confused...lots of possiblities to look atHopefully someone can help.
Thanks Tiney
Hi Tiney
It seems you have a few cases here which I think you should try to reclaim and complain on.
Even though there is a reclaim template on the site, I would try to write in your own words with obviously your own reasons, they have 8 weeks to respond in full, and post by recorded delivery for your proof of posting and to keep a check on the timescales of 8 weeks their entitled to - to investigate.
However I will add the link here, as this is useful, and you may also find other reasons to help your cases, where you can add them to the letter as well:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
Another letter may be required if not successful, or until you receive the final decision which should enclose the financial ombudsman service (FOS) leaflet details of their complaints procedures.
Please post up anytime for more help.;)
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

with a little patience I finally seem to be getting somewhere with LLoyds TSB, After thirty minutes on the phone this morning followed by a 15 minute phone call with the ombudsman and then a telephone conference with Lloyds and the Ombudsman to see if we can come to a compromise I have come to the conclusion that I will be drawing my pension before it is settled.
I have been forced to make a complaint to the ICO as Lloyds have records of my original loan agreement or the settlement calculations. And as they continue to dispute the Ombudsman findings they refuse to offer more than the £500 they are offering as a good will gesture. The Ombudsman says they he is taking the matter to his superior as he feels Lloyds are dealing with this case with prejudice and ignoring the rules set down and going to start proceedings for punishing them.
All though this is hard work and very stressful, am very grateful for the support and advice. If it was possible I would buy you all a cyber beer.0 -
Hello,
We have received a letter today off RBS (NatWest) making us an offer "as a gesture of goodwill and without admission of liability".
The letter states: "The bank is prepared to refund the insurance premiums and interest that you have paid....Our calculations show that you have paid a total of £4293.66 for the payment protection element in your loan."
However, they have not offered to pay any interest. Having spoken to them on the phone they have advised me that they wouldn't be doing so as they don't pay interest. When I advised him this is not what I read on the internet, the man said I shouldn't believe all I read on the internet, or words to that effect!
Do you think I should accept their offer, or refer them to the FOS for interest due?
Any help/advice received would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Aggy
Awe hun I feel for you, this have caused you nothing more than a load of undue distress, I would come down on them like a ton of bricks, its seems so unreal what they have been doing in regards to Lloyds, I know they are not the easiest to deal with as one of my complaints have been now moved on as lloyds did not agree to uphold on my case, yet the adjudicator believed it should have been, I heard from them last week (FOS) who told me that this new adjudicator believes they should uphold and refund me as well, now they are waiting to hear for a decision from LLoyds once again by the 20th of this month.
I was sold PPI as an Homemaker/not working with just benefits, this one on a credit card in 2001.
I am glad that the FOS are pushing further with this and hope it gets lloyds sorting this out once and for all, they bound to have something to work on, it was less than 6 years ago and only almost 2 years ago you completed the previous loan for another loan !
All I can do from here is hope they get this sorted out for you hun, but you sound as if you need a beer bless you, I know its not the real thing but here we are here  .
I am sure this will be an outcome at the end, just hope its sooner rather than later.:AThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi there
I assume if they admit liability then they can or do include interest, but as a goodwill gesture I am not too sure, but check here now and again for posting from others, because you could still ring the FOS without taking it as a complaint at this point just to make sure with them first, good luck.;)

However I would still like to say Congratulations, well done. :T
Give the FOS a ring and ask them first hun, see what they say, please could you let us know what they say, tel number of who to contact on the link I posted.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Hi wonder if anyone can help? I am trying to reclaim £300 worth of PPI which I was missold with a storecard. GE Money run it, and have said 'no' but referred me to the Finance and Leasing Association, not to the Financial Ombudsman. I read on FLA website that the Chairman of the FLA disapproves of the recent PPI ruling, so don't fancy my chances going to them..... anyone know if they are fobbing me off incorrectly?Magiciansgirl0

I would contact them anyway hun, it seems that the Financial ombudsman are unable to deal with this because then GE money were not regulated as such by either GISC or the FSA, so contact the FLA anyway and see what they have to say to you, you should let them know the FOS referred you to these.
Good luck and please keep us posted, in case someone can suggest otherwise some other options here.
