I'm currently waiting for my Asda shop to come along. Picked the 'between 10 - 12' slot, however, have just had a call to say that they'll be about 20 mins late as they've had to drive so slowly due to the road conditions.

I totally understand this weeks excuse for late delivery but it's not the first time that Asda have been late.

So far, they've been late with my shopping because:

    a) They couldn't see the house numbers down my road and, therefore, had to ring me on the mobile to find out whereabouts in the road I lived
    b) The driver had to deliver shopping to a flat that was on the third floor, hence, it took him ages to get the bags in the flat and then on the road again
    c) Somebody had gone into the back of the driver's van whilst he was delivering which meant that it was not roadworthy and another van had to be called out to continue with the shopping.

I keep shopping with Asda, maybe I'm a sucker for punishment, and, to be fair to them, the drivers always ring me to tell me what the problem is. Maybe it's because my shopping is ALWAYS the last to be delivered that I feel the delay more.

Can any delivery drivers tell me if they follow a specific route when delivering shopping? I swear that I could pop round my pals for coffee and be back within 5 mins of the deadline just in time to receive my delivery...every time. Don't want to take the chance though!
It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?
  • I had same problem that Clive had my order cancelled without being advised. We were due a pre booked weekly delivery on Tuesday afternoon, I am on a bus route only 10mins drive from the store! I didn't get a call to say they wouldn't be coming, their helpline has a recorded message saying due to bad weather they have had some problems but if your order won't be delivered you will be contacted by phone before the allocated time slot. Online my order was showing as delivered, my online credit card statment is showing the charge as pending. I couldnt speak with anybody at the Tesco helplines as it appears to go straight to a recorded message then cuts you off. There was no updates on their website?
I sent them an email , but no response, I managed eventually to get through to the store the nest day to say order was automatically CANCELLED! I emailed Tesco customer services to complain but all they did was confirm refund. Great work Tesco you obviously dont want to retain exisiting customers. It is no wonder losing market share! I am going to use Sainsburys and Ocado in the future, as well as on time deliveries Sainsburys customer service are Fab and Ocado give me great discounts.:T ps. tried a home delivery from ASDA once and they were an hour late!
  • i've had a delivery from asda tues, wed and tonight! they are useless! they missed items with my first delivery, then missed some of the missing items on wednesday! finally got everything tonight (had to wait in all evening - they wouldn't give me a time!) and one products wrong and cheaper than what i've paid for (only 40p but not the point) iv phoned asda 5 times to get it sorted and they kept telling me they would ring me back - never did! i just had to keep ringing! it was my first online shop with asda, and my last!

My order from Tesco didn't turn up last night, even though I'd actually asked in the store earlier that day and they said all dot com orders would be delivered as normal. CS have emailed me a £10 evoucher, but I am still annoyed that no-one bothered to phone/email me to say that my order had been cancelled.
  • I had a phone call yesterday afternoon to say my delivery is cancelled due to the weather and i had to make a new online order. We used two vouchers that when i rang they said i could use them on the new order but only 1 of them was woking had to ring a second time to get this put on....

All I can say is that there must be some cr*p drivers at your local store. The manager from my store has had to spend all this week at a store about an hours drive away to 'sort out' their Home Shopping Department. We've had many drivers come and go in the 5 years I've been a driver at my store in fact, I am the only driver still here from when we first started.

It is impossible to deliver in a 'specific route' because the same customers don't always order at the same time of day on the same day of the week. Some customers order weekly, some fortnightly and some monthly (usually around the end of the month when it is probably 'pay day')

On a typical evening shift I might have 8 or 9 customers to deliver to within the 3 hours (6 - 8pm & 7 - 9pm). Brilliant if there has been no problems during the day - which has a knock on effect if I am still waiting for the afternoon van to return for me to then load up - and I am local. But (maybe because I'm quite experienced) I tend to be sent out to the villages within up to a 50 mile radius. So, what I have to do is look at which customers are in which time slot and then look at how I can try to deliver them all in the right time slot.

What I usually have to do is deliver the closest village first and the furthest last and this is why some customers get their deliveries late and I have to ring up customers to check if they are in so I can deliver early! Without telling you the store I work at or the area I deliver to it is difficult to give you an example but I often have a 40 minute drive from my last delivery back to the store.

When home shopping first started in my store we used to deliver to certain areas on certain days and times which meant that the van would be in a specific small area so more chance of a customer receiving their order on time. Nowadays, customers seem to be able to order at any day at any time , subject to there still being the available slot. So, in other words, if I stuck to my time slots, I could be zig-zagging from village to village and then back past the first village then back out further and back again etc. The more 'driving time' between deliveries 'eats' into the 3 hour delivery time.

All I can say is.... the further away from the store (where the vans are based) you live, the more likely your order will be last/late. To avoid this you could book the 'later' slot of each delivery 'window'. (ASDA specific)

    Example... Van 1 (morning) 10am - 12 noon & 11am - 1pm
    Van 2 (afternoon) 2pm - 4pm & 3pm - 5pm
    Van 3 (Evening) 6pm - 8pm & 7pm & 9pm

    Hope this helps.

  • Would be nice if Asda delivered to me,we have two stores near one at 20 miles and the other at 22miles but neither will deliver so have to use Tesco who are useless. We now have to use home deliveries more since bus service was stopped.
