Does anyone know if they can still sting you for the licence fee if you can prove to them that you cannot get a picture ? Like if you just use it for dvds and you can prove to an inspector that there is no way you can view any channels??? That should be quite OS and MS if we can perhaps get away with a refund for the rest of the period..

No, you only need a licence for RECEIVING live TV broadcasts and not for owning a TV.

"You must be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. It makes no difference what equipment you use - whether it’s a laptop, PC, mobile phone, digital box, DVD recorder or a TV set - you still need a licence.

You do not need a TV Licence to view video clips on the internet, as long as what you are viewing is not being shown on TV at the same time as you are viewing it.

If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system, or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence."
from http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/information/index.jsp and you have NO LEGAL obligation to tell them that. If they annoy you just ignore them as they have no right of access and you have no obligation to tell them you aren't watching live TV. The men who come out will try to con you into thinking you need a licence to own a TV and it's just not true.

Have to say that this thread is so uplifting today - it's been great hearing about adults, families and animals all enjoying the snow so much, it's all made me smile so much. Thanks to all.

I'll have you know its not as easy as it looks! those darned cervixes(sp?) can hide behind folds of skin and if that area -how can I put this- is not as pert and toned as it once was it can make quite a good hiding place :rotfl: TMI? lol

DH gets the train part of the way home, then cycles and his meeting ran late so he's hoping to get a train in the next few minutes. So glad I made vegetable soup today and that my job in the after school club finished early as all the parents came early to pick up their kids due to the snow. Eating leftover gammon, mashed potato and onion chutney as well as the soup. Reading through this thread, how many of us made soup today? lol

I managed to get to work this morning, but had a couple of near misses, I travel up a very steep hill, & 2 idiots wanted to do 60mph, I was trundeling along at under 20mph, both of them lost control & I had to take evasive action! I spent the first hour at work saying 'School is closed today' down the phone repeatedly, the local radio station had 6 pages of closed schools to read out. It was 12deg in my room, as the heating wasn't working, I stuck it out till 12 & then came home, we were meant to stay until 1 but I was just too cold.
Kathlicos, I'll light a candle for your dad tonight.
Hope everyone is snug & warm.
    Hugs Hester

:( It is not fair! Everyone has snow except Worcester. Well, there's about an inch and it has been snowing on and off all day, but it isn't proper snow. The kids are really fed up about it, and so am I!:( I'm keeping my fingers crossed tonight;)
