OS Daily thread - Monday 2nd February

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 2nd Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Morning friends,

Sorry I didn't post yesterday, my OH had another migraine and I spent most of the day in the other room.
145008001233002931-final.gifHowever, I couldn't wait to get up and share with you all the update on Tristan. As you know, I asked everyone who felt they could, to light a candle for Tristan on Saturday and so many of you said yes, which left me almost overwhelmed with the kindness.

We have a mutual friend who is the person keeping me updated and she went to visit Tris yesterday (Sunday) and said that the Drs and nurses were really pleased with him as his vital signs seemed to be stronger and when she sat and talked to him, he squeezed her hand, and earlier that day had 'blinked' when his family were with him!

What is more - she told him that I loved him and was thinking of him and he moved his hand towards the pendant he wears which is something I had made for him 3 yrs ago when he first became ill. But what it all means is that not only did he understand what she was saying, but that he is not so deeply in his coma right now! And I really believe that is due to all the love and light you all sent to him! So thank you thank you thank you!

Happy belated birthday N9eav
anniebooklover - I grew baby tomatoes (that took over!), peppers, radishes, baby carrots and chillis all in containers last summer and really enjoyed it!
Silvercharming - religious or not, I still believe that intent and love and thoughts mean the world and are just as powerful as prayers, so thank you very very much for lighting the candle. This 'friend' of your hubbys got me all riled up to on your behalf and I am glad he is going to sort it out for you, I wouldn't give her house room if I could avoid it.

My OH missed most of the weekend due to a migraine that started on Thursday and came back Saturday afternoon with a vengence. He got up and ate and pottered for a bit last night but is going to make a Drs appt for today as normally his migraines last two days and are gone, but this has been 4 days almost with only a few hours let up and its the second one this month.

I cooked corned beef pie for dinner last night and I just ate another piece cold for breakfast. It was delicious. Today the home help comes in so will ask her to help me cook something for dinner so OH has something hot to eat later on - am thinking something light.. but not sure what yet.

God this house is cold! Was told we might be eligable for a grant to have central heating fitted, but apparently we would have to pay around £500 towards it and I know that doesn't sound much but to us it's virtually unreachable so we may have to stay as we are.

Oh Gosh I have written so much! Forgive me please.

I hope you all have a good day - as we speak the fat cat is playing with a marble all round my feet and the rest of the room - ears down, tail swishing - she looks quite tigerish for a 12 yr old.

warm gentle hugs to those who need them

    Good morning.

MSD - what fantastic news! It's great to feel that we all helped Tristan in some way, with our candles, prayers and thoughts. I wish him well.

It's great if you can get a grant for heating but £500 is a lot to find, isn't it? I didn't realise you had to contribute towards a grant! I thought they were there to help people.

It's really cold here, too. There's about an inch of snow everywhere and it looks all clean and fresh, just waiting for footprints - not mine, of course, I'm not that brave at this hour! I don't think we'll get as much snow as other areas, though, although it will disappoint the grandchildren if they don't get enough for at least a small snowman!

Well, yesterday ran away with me as usual. I don't know where the time goes but it seems to slip through my fingers at a rate of knots these days.

Dinner tonight will be bubble-and-squeak with sausages and beans and I haven't decided on pudding yet.

I don't intend to go out today, if I can help it. I have enough supplies in and I shall just do some chores this morning, as well as my own work, and then take it easy in the afternoon. Well, that's the plan, anyway!

Well, if can summon up the courage, I think I'll go and have a shower now!

Hope you all have a good day. Will try and catch up with yesterday's thread at some point.

    (((Hugs))) to all in need.

Mhagster, I'm sorry but I laughed so much at your message.
MSD, glad to hear your news

    Breakfast - porridge
    Lunch - leftover roast
    Tea - Sausage & Mash
I hope everyone stays safe & warm.
    Hugs Hester

    Bonjour

In a hotel in France, good journey so far, though it did try to snow heavily on the M25 and Kent but it was not settling - then (lunchtime). It has given us just a covering of snow overnight.

Glad to hear the news of Tristan MSD. Have you thought of approaching the Lions Club or Round Table, they often can help real needs, it may be worth a try.

450 miles to do today, don't know whether I'll get a connection or not.

Belated birthday wishes n9eav and swales and huggs to Bemuzed.

Hi SD - not spotted you for a while.

Off to Breakfast - not OS sorry.

Morning MSD, Mioliere & all yet to surface!
So glad to hear your news, MSD, & add my thoughts & prayers to everyone else's, hope he continues upwards! :grouphug:
We've got about 2 inches of snow & it's still coming down. DS hoping college is shut so he can play out - nearly 17! Got a text from a friend near midnight saying she'd been playing in the midnight snow cos she was so excited - wouldn't think she was nearly 30! :rotfl:
Got to take mum for hospital appt this morning, but will see how weather goes - would hate to get stranded up there with her & face 2 buses home with mum & toddler!
WIll rummage in freezer for tea, some chicken in there, steam veg & oven chips, so might do a quick casserole to warm us up!
:grouphug:& kisses if you're poorly, sad, fed-up or just need 'em!
See you all later, off for 1st cuppa of the day

    Morning All

Glad to hear the news MSD, hope your OH gets somewhere with the doc.

Quite a bit of snow here and both childrens schools are closed so letting them sleep in. Hope it doesnt get worse as OH & our drivers work through the night when the roads are at their worst.

Today I will be mainly doing paperwork whilst the kids amuse themselves (hopefully). Have a tesco shop at 10am but thats about it. The kids might go out in the snow but arnt really bothered by it.

    Sausages for dinenr tonight.

    Morning :hello:

I forgot to cook the chicken yesterday  The lamb was next to the chicken in the fridge. I cooked the lamb, so how could I forget the chicken?

So today I'm cooking chicken :D along with cakes and pies.

A mouse has just dropped down the wall in front of me :rotfl: It's either dead or almost dead. Bout time too, we've tried all sorts of poison over the last few months but the latest one seems to be working. I blame the woman next door, her house is not the cleanest (bordering on filthy actually) - I won't even walk into her kitchen. She had her house rewired last year so had floorboards up everywhere, I reckon the mice were disturbed and driven over here. They appeared as the work was being done

    Morning all,

Its snowing :j :T its thick here this morning, and still coming down, the dog has refused to go into the gadren

DD is not going to school, they had advised against any travel unless urgent, OH is not at work no one can get there, and its my day off :D , so we are going to build a snowman in the garden, I will take some photos later for FB.

Will mostly stay in doors today, just venture into the garden, and maybe over the park with little dog. Need to change the bedding and hoover through the house, general tidy up, and some washing.

DD and I will make some cakes and cookies later, roast pork for tea with all the trimmings, after walking all day yesterday it was too late to cook it, so we had a quick tea.

Last night coming down the stairs my ankle gave way and sort of collapsed, my god did it hurt, I have to call OH out of the bath to help me down the stairs, luckily I only fell down one stair, but this morning it really hurts and is very bruised, so will have to take it easy on that today.

Diva, I am soooo glad to hear about Tristan, I do hope he continues to recover, hugs xx

Well I have gassed for England today  , take care all, and keep safe

    xx
