Tennager Band From Driving

Oh OK. I see now, that wasn't very sensible of the OP. I apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick.
The thing that worries me is that I have that feeling that more folk should have the thought "there but for the grace of god go I"
We were all teenagers once and we all did some very stupid/silly things that we either cringe at or think gosh we were lucky we weren't caught.
I have a teenage son who has a sporting gift and one would have thought he would be grateful but unfortunately his school work (AS level) is appalling and I think it is starting to affect his sporting potential and I think others are noticing. He has represented his country at U17 but his chances of carrying that on might not materialise unless he pulls his finger out and get's his act together. And he has at that stage wherte it is everyones fault but his.
Teenagers are the most difficult creatures to keep on the straight and narrow.0 -
I feel a bit left out as I seem to be one of the few people on this thread that doesn't know Claires son personally. Therefore, I feel unable to judge whether his brush with the law has changed his outlook on life and made him grow up a bit quicker than would otherwise be the case.
Still, at least one or two were decent enough to answer the original question.0 -
Unfortunately, the ban comes into force as soon as he is legally able to obtain a licence. TWOCing is illegal and I too find it highly unlikely that this lad was forced to do it - it is considered by some to be fun and its tough luck if they get caught or even if someone gets hurt. TWOCing for those that don't know is Taking Without the Owners Consent. Basically, your son allowed himself to be carried in a car that he knew to be stolen. To be honest I have little sympathy.
One hopes that he learns his lesson and doesn't try to ride a moped or drive a car until the ban is lifted. As a parent, you would be extremely irresponsible if you encouraged him to commit a crime by buying him a moped or scooter or any other motorised vehicle.0 -
Yup, I have also received pm titled Know it all.
I would like to inform op that I was a victim of a hit and run driver in a stolen car, fortunately I wasnt seriously hurt but 20 years after the event I still have neck problems
I also have 2 teenage sons (15 and 16) and i know for certain that if they ever did this that they would be grounded till middle age, and not be rewarded with a moped
If you are very far from school and he needs transport a push bike is more than generous
Any other pms will be ignored0 -

(It seems rather unlikely that your son was forced to get into that car and I don't believe for one minute your son would get a driving ban for being the unconscious 'passenger' in the back seat of a car. Did the force of the crash throw him into the driver seat? Your lad's been telling you porkies, love. imho you are completely and utterly irresponsible to be even considering giving a scooter to a young boy with a track record like this.)
LIKE THE PM SAID KNOW IT ALL no my ds has not been telling me porkies i was the one at court with him when he got the ban and so did the other 2 that was in the back with him too so it shows your not a know it all after all!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Can i ask when this happened and if you gave him any form of punishment at home after.0

A friends son past his test at 17 then got two lots of 3 points and so lost his licence. He was never banned but had to go back to a provisional licence and pass his theory and practical tests again.
At 22 he is now far more sensible. He has just passed his test but to get insurance on a group 1 car, declaring the previous loss of licence (remember no ban and now age 22) the cheapest quote he could get was over £3000 as main driver.
I would seriously check out the insurance before you raise your sons hopes of driving.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
