All police officers dont wear uniform you know, could it be that he is a plain clothes /office worker?????

It is not a perk. It doesn't say "Free travel" on the job vacancies does it. Also a lot of people wouldn't say minimum £33K before overtime, plus police pension isn't crap. (And £2.5K unexpected travel bonus of not paying to get to work)
As for the CC, carbon copy, ie copy Virgin in, not referring to Chief Constable.
As for the rest of it, I think we just need to accept that we have different ideas on it, and we go our separate ways.
Anyway, thats all I have to say on the matter. Thanks for the info everyoneThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
In my local takeaways the cops always have their orders for nowt. I spose they are called out a lot to sort out the rumpas with the drunks.Thing is if you report this man then I would be worried you would be a marked man and would be pulled up for the slightest of things. I trust no one.xXx-Sukysue-xXx0

13000 you are clearly anti-police and you are letting this get in the way of facts and reason.
A police officer is always effectively on duty. If that train needs police assistance, that person will be out of a job (as a minimum) if they do not help.
It is similar to supermarkets letting the police use their staff canteens for free, or as above, being offered free food from a takeaway.
To top it all off, nobody on this thread even knows if that particular police force and that particular train company have recipricol agreements or not.0 -
Rubbish. Copper isn't there to protect the train. He is having a free ride.
If there was a problem on the train, he would almost certainly say that there was nothing he could without "backup".0 -
Police Officers have always been able to take advantage of free travel on public transport whilst on duty.
The decision to give them free transport whilst off duty is for two reasons. First, they are expected to assist in any incidents which occur and, secondly, it is deemed environmentally friendly because it keeps a car off the road.
Makes perfect sense to me.0 -

Have to say it doesn't make perfect sense to me at all. Keeping cars off road applies to everyone on the train doesn't it?0 -

Lets say that there is someone who works in a takeaway on the train. What are they going to do if there is an incident? Offer them a pizza? Opposed to a police officer who could assist or arrest, and is obliged to do so.0 -
As a wife of a serving plain clothes police officer I am highly offended. My husband works extremmley long hours, for a crap wage and with very little respect from the public. They may get overtime but he has to work very long hours for this ( 6.00am start with a6.00am finish) . He has used the trains for free when he is on a job (ie survailence) they are allowed to do this, or would you like too see evenmore drugs on the street.
People who sit behind a computer critsising should walk a day in a police officers shoes. Then lets see you response. They are totally understaffed, underpaided and have no rights as they serve the QUEEN.
So get off your high horse and show some respect.
