It's a complete red herring for people to say that all they are doing is just working for a living. The real question is what added value does this occupation acheive?

In the past the electricity industry worked effectively without any door to door salespersons. Many of the expert back office jobs were drastically cut with consequential damage to customer service and efficiency.Now we have a plethora of front end salespersons churning customers from one company to another on the most marginal of price differentials. Indeed most of their efforts are put behind products which are likely to cost the end user more.

That really is the nub of the issue

And since these new companies are only really billing (sales) organisations, rather than having to concentrate on gas production and distribution, they can direct all of their efforts to contriving more and more complex and obtuse charging structures
