Npower door knockers!! why???

I don’t understand why people like yourselves have to be so rude to people who are simply doing their job.
I can appreciate if there is a salesman harassing you or completely overstepping his/her grounds. But the honest people (including myself) are simply trying to make a living.
Yes they get paid commission, So what!? Just like you get your basic salary! These people have to work a lot harder to support themselves/families than some of you lot. I'm not saying buy out of pity, or patronize them. Just show a bit of respect for god’s sake.
No matter where you go you will always find somebody who will break rules or be dishonest, you put your trust in corrupt politicians, police officers and other governmental bodies on a daily basis! So there is absolutely no surprise that you will get the odd corrupt sales person.
There is absolutely no need to speak to these people or treat them any less of a human being simply to boast your own pathetic little egos. If you are not interested in something it doesn’t hurt to say in a polite manner that you’re not interested.
If slamming doors in people’s faces or speaking to people like dirt gives you your kicks then you so be it. But I’m sure that having that kind of attitude will create other boundaries in your life and certainly shows what kind of a "good" person you make out to be.

Clearly rudeness is out of order, but in my experience it generally works the other way round. When I have said I am not interested the salesperson/s are pushy and won't withdraw without a verbal struggle. Where I have engaged them, I have been subjected to the most blatant lies regarding cost/discounts/direct debit discounts/fixing/capping.
The failure to police dodgy salespersons is notorious subjecting them to 'retraining' rather than flushing them out and inspires no confidence by the public.
The system itself is fundmentally flawed where a salesperson is more than likely to be selling you something which is inherently more expensive than a rival supplier. The is no discernible difference in product between the companies so price is the key driver. Basically if you are not the cheapest on the market for that customer, then you are actually depriving them of hard earned income, for what is an essential commodity.
The added cost of all these salespersons is totally counterproductive and wasteful. It should be banned immediately.0 -
What do you do for a living backfoot if you dont mind me asking?0

And I dont understand which part of my notice on my front porch do many cold callers not understand "cold callers are unwelcome" Its a official sign which I acquired stop being pestered by lying salesman this includes double glazing/Kleenzy/Avon
They always think it doesnt apply to them. Why do you think I go to great lengths not to be harassed by lying salesmen and many do lie.
I can find my own deals thank you, I have what is called a brain and I use it every day. I can quiet easily go on pc as I am doing now, and use a search engine to find me the best deals, I can even get cashback.
I am sorry but I would very much welcome a ban on cold calling
Oh despite still being polite even after having a notice they still take a 'no' for a answer, I have to start shutting the door in there face. If you come to my property respect my rules these are no cold callers, if you have a problem understanding this concept or reading a notice perhaps you should go back to school and get a real job rather than harrasing people at there door when many simply dont want you therecoolguydudeman wrote: »I don’t understand why people like yourselves have to be so rude to people who are simply doing their job.

Nobody said you cannot find your own deals, But some people don’t have access to a computer the whole point is to offer a service to a customer which allows the honest people in these industries to help customers and answer any questions they might have.
“perhaps you should go back to school and get a real job rather than harrasing people at there door when many simply dont want you”
In hindsight you can’t even be punctual yourself let alone criticize anyone else’s education. Stereotyping people who work for these companies into people who are badly educated or not contributing a real work load into society is simply pathetic, childish and as you more than likely intended is pretty offensive.
I wouldn’t personally say things like bin men or litter pickers are particularly skilled career choices but they still offer a service to the community.
There are way more important things to focus on than worrying about somebody knocking on your door trying to sell you something. You treating someone like muck or speaking to them in a cocky attitude is more than likely to cause more problems than what its worth.0 -

Maybe some people have bills to pay? To put food on the table? Oh I see! Your too far up your own ar*e to realise it. Sorry.0 -
I have bills to pay as do everyone else and food on table
Why is it a problem to respect my privacy, I dont want to be persisted at home either by phone or door knockers, I go out of my way to untick the boxes for privacy and have a official sign put up by Trading Standards
They come to my house uninvited, ignore the sign and wonder why they get hostile reception when I say sorry I am not interested and then they go on and on.
Its as if they just run from a script not thinking hearing what I am saying
Its about time the companies learned some people do not want to be pestered at home, is it so difficult to understand that or learn to read the notice some householders put outMaybe some people have bills to pay? To put food on the table? Oh I see! Your too far up your own ar*e to realise it. Sorry.0 -

I don't see it has any relevance. The thread is about NPower door knockers, not my background.
It's a complete red herring for people to say that all they are doing is just working for a living. The real question is what added value does this occupation acheive?
In the past the electricity industry worked effectively without any door to door salespersons. Many of the expert back office jobs were drastically cut with consequential damage to customer service and efficiency. Now we have a plethora of front end salespersons churning customers from one company to another on the most marginal of price differentials. Indeed most of their efforts are put behind products which are likely to cost the end user more.
Pointless really0 -
I've read through most of this, and everybody basically blames the salesperson. Well, it's not the salesperson's fault. It's the energy company.
They set targets for these guys that mean they have to get a certain number to get paid. E.g. 12 dual fuel direct debits = 500 commission.
Wow, you're all thinking, a basic of 12k then 500 a week commission. That's £38,000 a year.
Slight problem if you get 11 dual fuel direct debits. Sorry, didn't hit the target, you got 11 dual fuels each week for the whole year, so it's 12k basic. So within reason, the energy companies are encouraging lies, etc.
If they paid a smaller amount for each, and every one, the salesperson got, the lies etc might stop. But slight problem there too. They've got maybe 200 people employed to deal with the complaints etc, that the current system encourages, and would have to sack them.
There is one energy company to my knowledge that pays for each and every deal, and guess which one I work for!
The dodge to look out for is................"I'm from your current supplier, I'm coming round to see if you're on the best price, please sign here to say I came". There's no way your existing supplier would come round for any reason other than to read your meter, or to change the meter in which case they'd write to you in good time, to inform you of the visit.0
