i sooo dont know even what we'll need to buy!!
i'm hoping that someone has a thread somewhere on what baby things you defo need to buy and which you dont really need!! cos i can see me buying things i can do without etc... like a moses /crib will a cot not do instead??

We have a moses basket for downstairs and a crib beside our bed. We were just going to use the moses basket at the start but carrying it up and downstairs every night and morning was just a pain.

Weve got a cot bought for when the crib is too small but if we had thought at the start that we would have the room for the cot straight away we would have just put it beside our bed and not bought the crib (although it was second hand and a bargain anyways at £25 with a new mattress) Weve been trying to sell our house and the second bedroom is quite small, not enough room for a bed and a cot, and weve got it made up as a bedroom as my mum comes to stay a lot. If we dont sell our house before Isla needs to go into the cot we are just going to rearrange our bedroom a wee bit so we can get the cot beside our bed as we really want to keep the spare room as a bedroom to show potential viewers how it looks as a bedroom.

So really the moses basket and cot would have prob done us from the start, but deffo wouldnt have been without a bed downstairs and one upstairs as babies sleep sooo much for the first few weeks and you really need something handy.

Oh and we bought the moses basket and stand off ebay for £30 and a new mattress was £15 so well worth the money.

Oh a cot/crib discussion! (I can put off the money thinking)....

We will be using a small ikea cot as it is all that will fit in our bedroom, and the carrycot from the pram (that can be used for sleeping) for the first few weeks/months. Usually we have had a moses basket, same size as they carrycot and babies have been in it inside the cot for maybe 2 months before they went into the cot. When it's time to switch rooms, we will try and pick up a cot bed, or just use the cot till 1year then change to a junior bed (and a baby gate on the bedroom door).

Space in this house is at a premium, plus as this is soooo our last child, we will be using cheap equipment as we have no plans for re-using it.

I know  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Feelie, you are not going to just wake up one day with a baby, no matter how much you try and convince yourself :p :rotfl:

Right, cant really find any lists but here is a start:

    Cot/Cot bed + matress

Or Moses basket or Crib (I wouldnt recommend getting both of these)

Cot/moses basket bedding: At least 4 sheets for each, I swear by fitted sheets for everything, but you can get flat ones for over the baby.

Blankets: I'm not sure how many but I'd say 4 is a good guess, you dont need to use 4, but they are handy to have.

Baby monitor: not essential, but useful even if baby sleeps in your room, i mean it's not like you will be in the room all the time when the baby is sleeping.

Changing Mat: Again not a nessessity, but they are handy.

Chest of drawers: and other nursery furniture I guess, unless you already have other bedroom furniture.

Bath box: to keep toiletries in, again not essential but handy.

Vest: at least 4, I'd say 6 in each size.

Baby grows: the same as above.

Hats, scratch mits, booties, bibs etc.

    Bottles is not BF: 6

    Steriliser

    Breast pump if BF

    Bouncy chair

Nappies, (and wipes, cream, nappy sacks or fancy nappy bin)

    Formula if bottle feeding

    dummies if using

baby bath or u can wash them in the sink - very cute

Oh nearly forgot, buggy and carseat :D

Have probably missed out loads, so if anyone else has got any lists feel free to post!

Here is the list I posted a while back ;)

Hmm... Seems I've upset hubby and he's gone off upstairs rubbing down the last of the woodwork... I'm too tired... And far too hot to care atm... And I'm sure I turned the thermostat down last night... I'm wearing pyjamas with a vest top but it feels like a sauna in here....
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

If a tiny baby, use socks as scratch mits till they fill out a bit. Best tip I got with two earlies.
  • Krystal - I am really hot all the time! Which completely the opposite to normal....I think it because I have a boy growing inside me lol.

Can you give us a bit of direction in how to pee our hubbies off so that they go off in a huff to do DIY??? You are a miracle worker!

  • Hey everyone,

MFD you are really lucky to still be wearing your rings (mine have always ended up on my necklace before 20wks!) There have been a couple of times just recently where I have had to take them off in the middle of the night because of pins and needles/swelling and I am sub 12wks :o:rotfl: although we are almost there :j

Well there is an eerie silence here - Papa has taken the kids away for the week - so the plan is to do all the jobs we can never seem to fit in and get the house ship shape again. Mum should be moving her stuff out at the end of the month so I will get the dining room and the playroom back so we might get back to having a home rather than a storage facility!

I have our 1st scan this week too and even more exciting dh has taken a couple of days off work so that we can have some "us" time :D I am just waiting for something at work to go wrong and him end up having to go in :rotfl:

jillie - everyone is different in what they want/need. So far our 1st 3 have gone straight into a cot - but then there might be some things that I would think were really important that others wouldn't... congrats btw!

am - if you found yourself addicted to brain training don't try big brain academy! ;)

ok better go make a plan - it will be Friday before I know it!
